About a year ago there was a problem with SL and some NVIDIA 7900 owners. Graphical errors would appear in world and the game would basically be unplayable unless you could deal with the smearing off all the objects in world all over your screen.

This made me break out my old stock NVIDIA 7600 card and play with that ... and I've been playing with that card since.

Then, I figured out this wasn't just a problem with SL, it was also a problem with many others games like EvE and Call of Duty 4 and that it was NVIDIA's fault for not releasing a proper driver for the new updates on some games.

It's been over a year now since I first changed cards and I'm wondering if this problem has been fixed?

I'd like to start playing with my 7900 ... much better graphics. =)

EDIT*

This was my first post addressing the issue a while ago. There's pictures.

it probably works fine if your using new drivers

and I don't hold NVIDIA at fault because some programmer tried to cheat and do something cleaver in their game, EVE, SL and COD4 are all well known for their smoke n mirrors horse crap, and its really the software makers duty to make sure their product works with current hardware

My 7900 has been fine even through the issues with the latest drivers the worst I had was a glow on the edge of the screen with a few of the First look clients and windlight but those bugs were fixed. I never had any smearing all over, EVER !

VBO on or off no issue Runn RC's at Ultra and short draw distance everything else custom set mid to high and shaders all on.. AA on or off no issues just lower FPS with it on

my 9800GTX+ should be here in the morning get to see if there is a big difference with that one

EDIT TO ADD you ran that test last time and you failed but the card worked after you cleaned the quite a lot of dust .. I would make sure its good and clean, run DriverCleaner (only remove all the Nvidia GPU drivers) install the 7900GT, and install the latest Drivers not 175.1 but the latest go grab them from Nvidia before you uninstall the old drivers and the old card and save them to the desk top for easy access after you uninstall with Driver Cleaner

You should see a noticable difference with the 9800GTX+ over your 7900. I can max everything with mine and not lag much at all..........though draw distance at 256 helped over 512 (so I leave it there). The driver I'm using right now has no problems.....185.85. And one big difference you'll see right off the bat is your 9800GTX+ will run about 15 degrees C lower than that 7900. :)
