Ah, A Socket A Afficionado . . .

Just to give a point of reference here: Back toward the end of 2001, I built a gaming-class computer built around an Asus Socket "A" mainboard, a Radeon 8500, and an AMD AthlonXP 1500 processor. This box has long since been retired from its gaming duties, but is still chugging along quite nicely as a fileserver and SQL database running on Ubuntu Linux (8.04 server edition). I also have a box I built in 2005 around a PCChips Socket "A" board and an AMD Sempron 2600 (basically a rebadged AthlonXP), running Edubuntu, for the kids. Despite the fact I would never trust the PCChips board for anything beyond the kids' entertainment, I have never had any trouble with the AMD processors.

I found, lying around in my parts box, the following: (I don't have any more working Socket A Motherboards)

Athlon XP 1.333MHz
Athlon XP 1.400Mhz

Thoroughbred-B Sempron 2800+

They are yours for the cost of shipping, should you be interested . . .

I also have a selection of P2, P2 XEONS, P3, P4 CPUs and an AMD x64 3000 Venice socket 939 chip. Anyone interested, email me at stefan@baartman.com.

VIA, but my aunt in law has spoken for it

EDIT
well ok so now i have 2 questionable 478 boards and 1 probably bad 1.7ghz celeron

ill pm you more info when i have a chance to get it, basics aside, 1 is a dell board with a intel chipset and no agp (i also removed the audio out jacks header for a pic32 project and the pc speaker)

the other is a Gigabyte 8VM533M-RZ, and has a AGP8X slot

Both are MATX, both seem to be limited to a ram speed of 266 ddr

The original working config was the chip + the dell board, but then something died, I bet on the board

The gigabyte board was sold to me by a local shop keep i keep in contact with (somewhat) AS IS, and NOT TESTED, physical condition is good (and complete)

Neither will post with the 1 and only 478 chip i happen to have.

Send me your address (email is stefan@baartman.com) and I'll send you a working P4, might only be a Celeron, but it would let you test the boards.
