Female Avatar Changed?

i've been able to make new textures that don't smear and that connect from front to back (so they aren't crotchless) but we're basically talking a single pixel line. :p it's totally possible to make non-smearing textures now but best case scenario is a fix that lets us keep using all our old textures and not lose the (geuesstimating here..) $1500 or so i've paid for uploading textures that are now worthless. and that's just me..other people probly have more.

is there any explanation for where this came from in the first place? everything used to be fine and even after those changes to how textures are put on..sorry i can't remember what exactly was done but it was the change that made text across the chest look better....everything was still fine til a few weeks ago. then bam..smears. did an intern get ahold of the avatars while everyone was at lunch? :)

anyways Xenon the SL lingerie industy is depending on you..we're frozen now between wanting to make new stuff but not knowing if the new stuff will stop working when the problem is fixed..plus we don't want to lose all our old efforts. and we're starting to chafe from going without undies all this time hehe.

The great underwear mystery

Using a texture Damiana loaned me I was able to do some forensic science to try to uncover the truth behind the smeared lingerie. The results are puzzling...

The first test was to verify that the texture smeared on the avatar in the currently released version of SL. Indeed it does, but some may debate the severity of the problem. Nevertheless, I forged ahead.

The next test was to see if it smeared on the avatar model in Maya, the 3D app. from which the avatar is exported to the viewer. Again, there was a noticable smear in the unmentionable area. So far so good.

The 3rd test was to see what happened to the same texture on a very old version of the avatar, a version from October 28, 2002 to be exact. Here, the results were unexpected; the texture still smeared in exactly the same way as the current version!

Of course this evidence goes against the current belief that the trouble zone was trouble free as little as two weeks ago. Feel free to speculate. Perhaps the aforementioned Linden Intern snuck a "fixed" version into the viewer a couple months ago. Perhaps a parallel universe of graphics-glitch-free Second Life exists and we were all teleported there for an all too brief adventure. Perhaps we are witness to a group hallucination... these are just a few plausible explanations.

Nevertheless, corrective steps have been taken to minimize the smearing for a future release and are currently being tested. Damiana's example texture looks much better, so hopefully that means all old underwear textures will not need to be altered. If you are worried about creating new textures that might not work with the new version, then I would suggest holding off until the fix is in.

curioser and curiouser. :) ok just for the sake of argument let's say the avatars haven't changed at all.... is there any possibility that all underwear type textures could have gotten changed or corrupted somehow? probly grasping at straws here.

what version are we looking at for the fix you mentioned and does anyone know when it's coming?

p.s.: thanks for all the work Xenon. :) our underwear thanks you too.

ooh just thought of something.....i'm going to upload an old copy of an underwear texture that i made before the problem showed up and see if that has the same smearing as all the textures that have been uploaded this whole time. if that makes sense.....

checked last night and uploading a fresh copy of a texture made before the problem appeared did not solve anything. same thing happened for Kenzington Fairlight when she tried.

just for fun here's another example of texture smearing in a personal area...

whose personal area is that you ask? why it's Phillip Linden's.

WHAT?

yep. :)
