Second Life has discovered a major glitch in their office design :( Seems they can't choose a office layout any better than they can manage their creation.

It seems that the power switch ( that looks mysteriously like a simple light switch) is in the same bank of switches used to turn off the office lights each Friday night.

The same "tard" turns off all the light switches as he/she (?) leaves the office on a Friday night and turns off the asset server, the login server and the verification server. Also, it was found out that the night shift puts their 1000 watt turbo micro wave oven on the asset server each night.

The SL Tech team is, at this moment studying a solution to this perplexing problem.

Pictures 8 Chimps in lab coats staring at the light switches with a black board behind them showing arrows and lines, X's and O's and other cryptic symbols to resolve this issue that occurs...Daily?

Well its no idea to complain, that is something i have learned in here.

First Linden Labs dont care one shit, and second soon the defenders of Linden will show up telling us how hard Linden is working etc etc etc.

This is just stupid now, just stupid.

I just crashed again for the 3rd time in less then an hour!!!

*make sure you send the crash report....i know for a fact it does help them track down the problem

I crashed and tried to send a crash report, the screen flickered for a min then a message appeared:

"the crash reporting systems seems to have encountered a unexpected problem, please crash again later and try your report again"...thank you for your patience!

[8: 34 PM] We have investigated network issues and determined connectivity issues with one of our service providers. Contact has been made and they are working to resolve this.

-login get you in eventually, but it is very slow, and doesnt work most of the time if its a busy sim, but 1~2 logins is all i need to get back in, so it is possible, but not worth the aggrivation since its very slow right now to rez and asset slow to respond.

[2.00 AM] We are still working to resolve the routing issues. Our sincere apologies. - Matthew

Resident logins have been disabled until our toplevel routing issues have been resolved.

We deeply regret the inconvenience, and we’ll keep you posted.

the morons finally figured-out that they need to close the grid period. seriously as i stated earlier their method of updating the servers has really taken a toll on the entire system and i'll bet you that their ISP isn't to blame here at all. anywho i'm gonna be at work for the next 8 hours. if they still can't figure-out squat someone's gonna get fired (or hopefully a coup against the tyrant Philip Linden).

Stares in disbelief at the matchbook found in the Linden Labs entry foyer "and you to can learn to network"!

Wouldn't it be amazing if every subscriber, be they paid or free account said "F*** this" for 1 week and simply didn't log in?

I know it would never happen, but imagine the message sent to LL?

Okay, glad they're finally doing the right thing, but it's been 3 and a half hours. An update would be nice.

We're all feeling it but not much can be done- just hope they do this right. Watch the blog for updates - more regular now......

[11:01 AM --teeple] As Jack remarked earlier, this is an extraordinarily prolonged and unusual disruption. Many high-profile services and corporations are feeling the pain this morning, and full scale efforts are underway to isolate and fix the root cause.

[10:11 AM] We are still trying to put our fingers down on the cause for the problem, please bear with us a while longer! We apologize again for this interruption of your weekend plans!

[09:07 AM] At the present time, in order to resolve the current operational state of Second Life, we will need to force log out all users currently still logged in. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have the issues resolved as soon as possible. Updates will be posted here. -Lotte

[08:30 AM] Our Ops team is still working with the technicians from our ISP to fix the networking problems. Stay tuned for updates! -Lotte

[07:30AM 04/05/08 REOPENED] It seems the problem is even harder to nail down than we earlier supposed. We need to close logins again to go back to diagnostics. -Lotte

[3.30 AM] [RESOLVED] - The doors are open and we are back. It turned out there were multiple issues with our ISPs network which have been worked around for now. The network provider is working to resolve the issue permanently - Matthew

[2.30 AM] Folks, it’s been a rough night so far and we apologise for the lack of service right now.

Like most network providers today, the ISPs who provide bandwidth for Second Life actually bundle many network links into large virtual links between their data centers. Traffic for many customers then flows across these bundles. Starting at approximately 19:30 PST, some of the special routing that handles aggregation of these bundles at the ISP level malfunctioned causing us severe packet loss of over 50% on the portion of traffic going to Linden Lab’s data centers. We had no option but to disable logins.

Since this is a highly unusual failure, it’s been complex and time consuming to diagnose. We are working with our network provider’s engineers towards a solution and will be back up just as soon as we can.

– Jack Linden

Totally agree. This is nuts.

I can understand about servers going down "occasionally". but you can almost set you watch by when the next outage will be.

Seriously, LL need to back up and get their core technology working instead of giving us POS viewer updates or new "features" that require a Cray computer to actaully run half-way decently.

Deep down, we love SL

Seriously, people can't believe that LL likes having this happen. Of course they care if people can't log on. This is their business. If they lose customers, they lose money, IE keeping us happy is a priority for them. This technology is way beyond it's time, and personally, I think it's amazing that it works at all. I'll glady tolerate the crashing and lagginess, (and yes, I experience more then my fair share of it). Let them do their job, and work on fixing the problem. None of us are there, so we shouldn't say they are doing it wrong. How do we know? Saying they don't give a sh*t is petty, we're all just irritated. It's a human instinct, forget all the good things about it and focus on the bad thing happening right then. Personally, I've had a lot more great experiences on SL then I have bad. It's all part of the experience. If you don't like it, you don't have to stay.

Ok, I went to bed around 2 am EST time to come back on SL at around 2 PM EST time "thinking" SL would have resolved this issue. I hope they know how many people are angry and that THE WEEKEND is when most play. Obviously the system is not completely down because employees and some were still logged in. From what i was told. BACKUP... keyword BACKUP your sh*t. I am NOT one to complain but this is not right. We spend RL money here and it is being wasted. I suggest the ones that pay rent do not get this time being taken from us. When I login I hope to see my rent days at what they were. People PAY MONEY here. YES, I will complain on that behalf. It's money and we are not able to use it and we pay rent for using "days" in SL. For such a large company they should have all intact. Such as an ISP. When an ISP goes down they are back up within hours. This has been ridiculous in "hours". I hate complaining but thinking on it this is not fair to ANYONE. I think we should all get something for this terrible inconvience. The plans, the money etc etc.. that we all had planned today is seeming to go to hell. I had very important meetings today i am NOW not able to reach the people. Seriously SL get a backup IF THIS does happen. You all keep saying this and that on the forums but you have NO clue how many people are going to quit SL over this.

Ya know..this actually happened not too long ago...3 days of no service...I thought I was going to crawl out of my skin...Residents took to the forums in a rage...3 whole days of the ranting and the wounded begging for some resolution...Eventually we had to actually go OUTSIDE...our squinty eyes stung as the sun blared down upon our pasty white skin...A few mishaps occurred when some realized there was no fly option in RL....

But then SL was back and all was right with the world...

As much as I'm livid that I JUST re-upped my L$...meaning I pretty much paid LL for locking me out..lol once I got my initial bitching out of my system, I feel much better...SL won't be down forever...the forums ain't that bad..hehe
