First, your sims must be both worth nothing and generating zero income. Why else would you not care about "business?" You must also not be paying any tiers and thus it doesn't matter b/c you're getting exactly that for which you are not paying.

Second, not one network engineer to whom I've spoken about this sees anything but abject failure by LL to plan and prepare for *inevitable* contingencies. Three out of four of those high-level engineers stated there should definitely be a backup ISP in place. Clearly, there is not. This has gone beyond mere incompetence; it's now sheer stupidity.

Third, you are taking LL's word for that being the problem. You believe them after all the many times less than accurate information has been given us--this melt-down being a perfect example? You believe their clearly manipulated "public" statistics? (Didn't take a college stats course, eh?) LL doesn't even know what the word "resolved" means. I refuse to believe anyone that dumb. But should it be the truth, refer back to my second item.

Well, sport...outages don't matter a whole lot to landlords. They get paid rent regardless, so making tier isn't an issue with them. It's the content merchants that are hurt by these outages, not the estate owners and landlords.

Second, SL is not a "service", although it's often referred to that wayk, and LL would like it to become one. It's a prototype MMORPG. Games have outages that would be unacceptable in a commercial service. Yeah, I know: it's not a game and you have real money at stake. BFD. LL didn't promise you jack...didn't you read the TOS? They covered their butts pretty good.

Third, why am I arguing with you? You're paranoid. You disbelieve LL's explanation, with zero evidence that they are lying to you. Why would they? In fact, they've been pretty upfront and informative with the blog lately.

Now...having said all that, I'll back up and agree with you to this extent: The problems with the service HAVE been getting worse lately, and Saturday was just horrid and Sunday not much better. IMO, the infrastructure can't take much more concurrency. LL is going to have to make some very basic changes in the underpinnings of the world...and I'm not at all sure that it is possible.

I don't think you have a prayer of a ghost of a chance with a class action lawsuit, or any other sort of lawsuit. But keep your eyes open for a competitor. I sure am.

I'm also not looking for an argument but every time SL explodes, we get people here who want to redesign the world but never _really_ step up and say what they'd be willing to pay for it.

You're getting closer but you still haven't said what _you_ would pay to have a more reliable SL. Is it 50% more in tier? 5%? 500%?

Tell me what the Service Levels will be and I'll tell you if I think the price set is fair and am prepared to pay it, this is business as usual (supply and demand, market set value and price). Until I know what I am getting, I am not going to put a value or worth on something. So the response is 100% valid for the current discussion theory and answers the question as posed.

My I also ask for some clarification please, when you say...

Who's the "we" in this discussion? I might not post in this forum particularly but does this make my choice of discussion subject matter less interesting, useful or worthwhile than anyone else who has 2000 posts?

As for the defensive stance of "everytime SL blows up..... etc", this topic was purely a discussion, not bashing, threatening, screaming at LL/SL, I am a user, business owner etc etc and just felt that I would like to have my say and if a discussion thread could provoke useful and interesting discussion, you never know, it might actually go some way to helping to resolve such issues. Now wouldn't that be a great thing?

Whatever you think SL should be, for however you want to use it.

I was "courted" as a commercial business, with the plan to extend the parts of our business that suited in to VR, but unfortunately with the current Service Levels it has not been possible to take full advantage of what SL offers, this is not uncommon though even in RL business ventures, but the difference here is that we have less opportunity to effect the outcome if LL/SL continues to grow at its current pace with what would, on the face of it, appear to be little plans to move the infrastructure forward at the same time.

These are the reasons why people move ISP's, Banks, etc in RL. The offered service does not live up to expectation or provide the suggested value or return for the investment (whether that be time or money)

As I am sure you do, I enjoy the game and meet some great folks, find some kewl things, but have been very disappointed with many aspects of more commercial offering side of things and have scaled down plans to treat SL (at the moment) as anything else but a "game". This is not to say it isn't a good "game" and as a game, the service provided is most likely adequate, but I talk to other folks and whether they are merely in SL for the game or business minded folks, I see many tailing off due to such issues as we have discussed here and in other threads. This is not good for LL's business, let alone end-user confidence going forward and could be a major limiting factor to SL/LL growing and enhancing service in the future.

You get paid by the word and not by the answer, don't you?

It's funny to me that one word can solve a problem, infrastructure. Second Life has 13+ million users, big whoop. But what does that mean?

* Within a few seconds, out of those 13 million users, SL should be able to report what is your inventory. This is literally searching for your 10,000 items in MySQL Database cluster of 100 terabytes of information.

* Withing a few seconds, SL needs to determine what object or texture to rez in your field of view.

* Within a few seconds SL needs to determine which of the 50K online users is paying a person or group. Report the transaction details and route the Lindens to the appropriate destination.

* Within a few seconds SL needs to monitor the all concurrent IM windows opened to determine if a message is to be received when the routed message is sent. If the person is not online it will go to archival if a personal IM.

* Within a few seconds SL needs to provide a search of Places, People, Groups, Land Sales, and Classified Ads.

* Within a few seconds SL must be able route a transactional (not as the paper trail sense but as in quantity and permission sense) inventory item to appropriate destination.

* All this information need to be readily accessible from basically all corners of the world.

* THIS HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE LOOK AT GOOGLE OR DIGG! Not the same, the biggest difference between the alot of the traffic with SL is that traditional sites have more static data. The traffic with Second Life is constantly changing. Also the last round of public funding for Linden Labs was $15 million compared how many billion for google?

* AFTER ALL THIS ALMOST ALL THESE ACTIONS NEED TO BE SECURE.

I know I'm missing alot of things but it's just crazy what SL does. Users can log in for free. Upload anything they want, it's insane. It's one of the reasons why it succeeds but also why it's failing now. The only thing is Linden Labs knew this was coming, after the giant influx of users we had all their inventories are maturing. The writing should have been on the wall. Maybe that's why there was a shake up with management in Linden Labs in the past couple of months. Who knows. I wish them luck and us too. :)

Impasse? What impasse? I just asked, several times, how much more you'd be willing to pay to get SL up to where you think it should be, for however you use it.

_This_ is what we, we being the forums here, see every time SL explodes. We get several people who spout marketing techobabble but refuse to address a very real issue - how do you do all (or any of) these wonderful and very expensive things to a _massive_ system like SL without putting LL out of business.
