Hi,
I just installed the Second Life beta onto my computer. After I enter my ID and password, I am taken to a black screen with a progress bar (precaching) and treated to some dialogue. After that, nothing happens and my computer locks up.
The precaching bar fills up (solid green across the screen) and the audio stops. My hard drive stops activity, although I still have control of my mouse pointer. It stays this way for maybe five minutes, until I am forced to shut down the computer and reboot.
My specs:
P4 - 2 ghz Northwood 256 mb 32 mb ATI Mobility Radeon M7 3D Accellerator (It's a laptop)
ADSL 512/128
Linux Firewall rules set to allow incoming traffic that was initiated behind the firewall (in my network) but to keep out unruly hackers and port scans.
Attached is the SecondLife log. I couldn't locate a Dr. Watson log (using WinXP home version).
Thanks for your help. Let me know what other information you might need to diagnose the issue.

I didn't see my log attached to the previous post. Is there something I am not doing to attach the file while posting?
Also, I can't seem to successfully upload an Avatar for the message board. I have a 15k 50x50 .jpg image, and every time I try to upload it, I get this error message:
There has been an error in the upload. Please ensure that the file has been correctly selected and that the upload has taken place successfully.
I located the proper file on my computer in the browse box, and clicked submit, but alas, no luck sending an avatar or my SecondLife log.
Argh!

One last update...
It's not my network, because I can login on an older computer in the network running Win 98 SE. Think it's the OS or some weird conflict/setting?

Hmm... While in principle we should be able to run on your graphics card - ATI Mobility Radeon M7 3D Accellerator, we've never actually tried it... If it's possible, please send us a bug report with the information, as in the thread below: /111/2a/65/1.htmlto Peter (peter@lindenlab.com). Also, a quick thing to do would also be to make sure that your video card drivers are up-to-date. Try going to your laptop manufacturer's web site - unfortunately, ATI doesn't release their laptop drivers to end users... That'll give us a better idea of what's going on... - Doug

Thanks man. I sent you an e-mail with the log and I'll be checking for driver updates in the meantime.
Is there a problem with the bulletin board? I can't change my little avatar icon or attach files to the messages.
