Graphic glitch with ATI card

I get this weird graphic glitch, which only comes up if I am building for long periods of time (over an hour).

I have an ATI Radeon 1950XT 256mb, driver version: 6.14.0010.6783

I did have some problem with my videocard overheating (videocard was getting up to 70'C) and as a temporary fix I put a large fan pointing to the inside of my case, dropping the temperature. Although this has not helped with this graphic glitch I am getting. I had updated the videocard drivers, no change either.

It causes those feathered outlines, both around menu items and object selections to turn into a dashed line, it also warps the geometry of objects when zoomed in. The sky also gets distorted. The only way to make this temporarily go away is to go to the Texture tab in the edit window and select a texture on a prim. But as soon as I go to stretch an object it comes back.

I do not have any problems with other 3D games, but then again, this is the only OpenGL game I have. Also, I've had this issue with pre-windlight as well. I currently have Atmospheric Shaders turned off, but I still get the same issue if its on, but textures get distorted and flicker. I mainly do not use Atmospheric Shaders as a lot of people use face lamps that are too strong and with Atmospheric Shaders on, they are a huge ball of light.

So, bottom line is I'm trying to figure out if this is a hardware problem with my videocard or some software problem. As it makes it difficult to build, and building is one of the things I love doing. As you can see from the videoclip, I am currently building a house, which I had put a hold on a year ago! O.O And I am eager to get back to work on it hehe.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

If anyone has any suggestions, info or anything, please let me know, thanks.

Also, if anyone knows if SL's tech support would even touch this or just say "its your PC" and walk away?

Gattz, you may be enountering ATI graphic glitch exhaustion on the part of forum folks. The most recent set of builds seem to have borked many ATI users even more than usual. Was there ever a version of the client that worked fine for you? If so, try reverting to that one, just to see if your hardware has been damaged by overheating.

If you search the forums (use "Advanced Search";), you will find many threads referring to problems with radeon this or that.

You can run older versions of the client by appending " -channel old" (where "old" can be any word) to the runstring.

Same identical problem for me!

I have post here the same glitch:
/111/ae/253531/1.html

One solution i have found is to click on the Texture Tab for graphics return correctly visualized!

I'm wait a new drivers version or a LL fix for this issue!

Any version of the currently support viewers (1.19.0 and 1.19.1). This was happening even while windlight was in first look status.
I have had issues with the videocard overheating, but I dont know yet if it is a driver/sl issue, or damage from overheating. As i could always just purchase a new fan, instead getting a new card (which I would end up upgrading to a geforce 8800GT, but would also have to get a new power supply which would cost me around 440$).

Well, I guess if this is an issue with ATI and SL, then there is no guarantee it will ever get resolved, or in a timely fashion. And if it is a hardware problem, might as well get the new card...

*looks at his wallet* ;.;

Using viewer version 1.18.4. After building for about 15 minutes, the glitch came back. Temperature was around 55'C. Soooo.... I guess getting the Geforce 8800GT would solve all my problems...it either being an ATI driver problem, it being an SL problem with ATI cards, it being a hardware problem...

My 8800GT works great
:)
Bummer about the power supply, though.

Ya, only got a 450w atm. I think that the 8800gt would kill it lol

Argh besides some strange and annoying transparency problem
that appeared when i switched to a Radeon 3650,
I had exactly the same problem as you on my Radeon 1800xt that I used before,
which has not yet appeared on the 3650 though...

It made building a pain,
espacially since the textures seem to move and blur
at times when caming around zoomed in
which made attempts to build on small scale highly nauseating..

That all started to happen a few viewer builds ago,
in the many month before I never encountered any problems
with my ati cards.

*howls in frustration*

I thought this was how SL had always been. -_-
I have always had blurring at an angle and flippity flap cr@p flying all over for no apparent reason.
I wonder what i have been missing.
