It seems it works now. googled for "can't uninstall Quictime" and i found how to do it manually. Now, it seems it works without QT (i installed te open version SnowGlobe).
Because this involves deleting register entrys, i recomend people to google for it ( i dont want to screw anyone computer for a mistake giving you the steps).
I think that Tigro's problem is different, but maybe this can be of some help. Sory Tigro, i dont know now nothing abut logs and that kind of stuff.

So? how is this going? i should say i was anticipating things. Is true that now i don't hang in the "initializing multimedia" anymore. it pass that part without any problem, but still can't logg in. Something about internet conection or server. I didn't have the chance to try conecting from another server, but i think this is my problem now. What about you?

I'm getting this issue too. It's the first time I've ever experienced this issue and I've made no changes to the system since it was last working. I'm starting to think this is due to a corrupted config file either with SL or Quicktime.
Today I logged into SL which worked as normal. I rebooted a sim but was unable to TP away before it went down, so I got logged out of SL during the TP request. This may have contributed to the issue because I didn't log out of SL cleanly. About 10 minutes later I tried to log back in and it got no further than "Initializing multimedia".
I've tried to log in about 20 times over the last couple of hours, every time it gets stuck on the "Initializing multimedia" stage. I tried running a QT video from my harddisk then closed it, to see if that gave QT a nudge. I tried rebooting the laptop. I tried logging in using an alt account. I tried ensuring all multimedia options in SL Preferences is disabled. Tried clearing cache. No luck so far.
The only system change recently is a OS security update. But that was a day or two ago and I've since logged into SL fine (today). If the last logout is what caused the issue, I fear this is going to be a PITA to replicate, because I've been logged out of SL like this a few times in the past with no issues afterwards.
Havent tried reinstalling QT or SL yet. Guess that's next.
My System is a Macbook Pro, Mac OS X 10.5.8. nVidia 9600M GT 256mb. In SL, All "Streaming Preferences" are disabled. Voice is disabled.

I seem to be back up and running.
I trashed the SL installation then reinstalled. Didn't touch QT. I've tried logging out and back in several times, enabling multimedia options, and the problem has not come back. Sounds like one of SL's config files got itself in a pickle then during the previous logout.
