Music...eehhh...Shadows for the Masses ... Shadow Viewer is an early build out of the development branch for the upcoming 1.23+ SL viewer (obviously) implementing the new shadows features...and they really look great! It is purely meant as an early preview, perhaps to take some nice snapshots, and play around, but it is not meant for any serious work. It is something pre-alpha, it will crash. So be prepared and don't complain later . [...] Included features are: Bulk permission editing (part of official 1.23 to come) Enhanced building tools (part of official 1.23 to come) Flexible Sculpties Double click to wear attachments Large Prims (only for Opensim grids) Maximized Network Bandwidth MUPose Style Worn Inventory Tab Teleport History ...and a number of more goodies and (hopefully) stability fixes. Too many to mention here . Please check the included releasenotes.txt for details. http://my.opera.com/boylaneAnd I promise it has nothing to do with 1 April besides the release date

It's in CV for a while already But that's not a CV, just a test version here. If you want to get the real and stable thing you need to look for Cool Viewer 1.22.11.0 R3 on my blog. Link below.

Oh good, another thing to suck life out of our graphics cards...lol. Sounds interesting though.
oh btw Boylane. Your ATI 'fixed' CV works well. Getting frame rates of around 35fps (never seen before) in a quiet sim (down to 18-20 in a busy one). With the normal CV or the official one it was 25fps at best and down to 8-10 on busy sims. Certainly hope you keep this fix in later versions of the viewer. Would have posted on your web page but it seems to be broken, can't raise new comments?

From: Jonvic Toshi Your ATI 'fixed' CV works well. The Shadow Viewer has the OpenGL patch too but standard settings. You may want to play a bit with the debug settings from my blog, perhaps it gets even faster...or it crashes terribly

Could you all do me a favour and post results in my blog, good or bad, please mention your graphics card as this one has the OpenGL fixes too that should mostly benefit ATi users. Thanks!

I tried to post on your blog, but it kept rejecting the captcha code for some reason. Snapshots work! Yay! It's running reasonably well so far under XP x64 on my PC. Video is an Nvidia 8800GT 512MB, 182.08 drivers. AA does not work on it. It crashes almost immediately under Windows 7 x64 (build 7000, the public beta, WDM 1.1 pre-release drivers) on the same computer when shadows are enabled. EDIT: It's running in Windows 7 now after deleting the cache files and logging in at a different location. One odd rendering issue: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Welsh%20Cove/21/109/23/The headlights on the car aren't there. Kirsten's Shadowdraft viewer did the same thing. For reference, in the same location, looking towards the locomotive in the field, I get about 13fps, compared to about 30fps with the standard viewer (ultra, 4xAA, AF) with no other avatars around. Some comparison shots between Shadow Viewer & LL's 1.22.11 viewer here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30680137@N05/sets/72157616154226675/

It also seems to be rendering very slowly, is there some way I can make sure it's using the llkdu library instead of openJPEG?

Nice work, Boy, thank you. I've been using Kirstenlee's SD2-4 for ages since the newer version had too many alpha bugs for me. I made a (rather useless but fun) comparison here: http://www.atomic-raygun.com/2009/04/from-shadows-im-still-using-kirstenlees.htmlOne thing I just noticed: I crashed a couple of times entering Appearance, then got into it and saw there are no underpants - I'd been trying without luck to get my underpants off my gorilla avatar - and this explains why it didn't work. Also - I can't edit attachments - only Appearance seems to be there, I think. No, I'm wrong - it's there under "More." Sorry. I can't post on your blog; it doesn't work.

Thanks Milla,
Not sure about MyOpera, some people reported the same with the captcha's, for others it works. Perhaps browser related?
Thanks for the testing. There are certainly still a lot of problems with it. Antialiasing does not work for me either. The non rezzed lights are a different issue. There are also problems with different outift (or at least) skin layers not rezzed in the right order.
For the llkdu, it should beenough to copy the file into the ShadowViewer directory and it should automatically be enabled at the next start. You can check that in help/about. It should list KDU there, not OpenJPEG.
Thank you too Osprey, nice posting *smiles*! Yes, the appearance problems were reported elsewhere too. Still a long way to go.

Did you run the .exe or did you use the included Shadow Viewer.lnk shortcut. The .exe will most likely crash as it uses the default settings.xml file in your user_settings folder. The .lnk specifies a new settings file that does not overlap with other settings from the normal viewer. Please delete the existing (old) settings.xml and try again, this time using Shadow Viewer.lnk.

The card should work, 8800 is supported. The last thing I could imagine is your graphics driver. Update to the latest?

Try clearing the network cache, and logging into a different location.

Extremely impressive. Shadows of course, but also your video. How did you get it to be so sharp?

Here is a new build based on latest SVN 1.23.0.116519, that's 3 revisions from the previous Shadow Viewer and there are a lot of changes for the rendering pipeline. I only tested it shortly, but alpha issues are still there. What has also changed is the brand new installer/uninstaller that works similar to LL's installation, however it doesn't call home and it creates own and independent file structures for the Shadow Viewer. It uses (that's for XP): Main installation: C:\Program Files\ShadowViewer User settings: C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\Application Data\ShadowViewer Cache: C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\Local Settings\Application Data\ShadowViewer You still need to add the not redistributable components. The installer will show a text info about this automatically after successful setup. As previously you need to download both parts, put them in the same temporary directory, and unpack them with a RAR capable archiver like WinRAR, http://www.rarsoft.com/rar/wrar380.exe (it's free). Then run ShadowViewer_1-23-0-116519_Setup.exe to start the installation. http://files.myopera.com/boylane/files/SL/ShadowViewer_i686_1_23_0_0_R3_Setup.part1.rarhttp://files.myopera.com/boylane/files/SL/ShadowViewer_i686_1_23_0_0_R3_Setup.part2.rarPlease let me know if that works for you or what doesn't. The installer will go into the next Cool Viewer release too.

From: Paulo Dielli Extremely impressive. Shadows of course, but also your video. How did you get it to be so sharp? Well, it's filmed 1280x720 and processed/uploaded as HD. I am always just feeling my way and never feel like I know what I'm doing when it comes to codecs and things, but what I'm doing at the moment gives me decent results. Thank you for the praise.
