Crashing!

Is anyone else experiencing crashes upon login or within minutes of being IG? I never used to crash before 1.09 and since this latest upgrade I'm experiencing total crashes. I get a DOS prompt window, everything locks and then I have to reboot. Help please. I've talked with two others that this has been happening to as well and just wanted to see if this was widespread or not.

Any input would be apprecated. Thanks.:)

Hi Carr... I have the exact same problem. I never crashed before 1.09 either. What I have to do is uninstall and reinstall almost every time I want to start SL and it's ok for a while. It still freezes up sometimes while I'm playing and I have to shut SL down and go through the whole mess again.

I'm having the same problem, and I think all of my graphics drivers are up to date. Uninstall/reinstall does get me in game but not for long. I'm using the 7 day trial version and frankly, I'm about to give up because the game is un-playable. Any advice would be appreciated.

Same here. Since the patch I can count on crashing at least twice withing 10 minutes of logging in.

After being in world for more than 20 minutes, the crashing doesn't seem as bad. Weird.

Well, I decided to check the properties on newview.exe and went to the compatibility tab and enabled it to use Windows 2000. I have XP by the way. I've logged in and out several times and it hasn't crashed yet. Hopefully that did it.

I've talked to a few others that don't post on the boards that are suffering the same problem. Please let's fix this. I'm up to date on my drivers, I've also uninstalled and reinstalled. It's getting quite frustrating to say the least. I am not one to complain until I'm at a fed up point. Help!!!! Please!!!!

Hi, Carrera -

I've gotten all of your crash reports - unfortunately, I have not been able to track down exactly what's going on - it's definitely something that was introduced in the 1.08 patch, but it's been difficult to track down, as it doesn't reproduce reliably in any way in our internal testing. If you can give me any more information about when it's been happening, that would be useful.

Unfortunately, it appears to manifest itself in such a way that some users crash a lot and other users don't crash at all, as opposed to all users crashing slightly more frequently.

Please keep sending in those crash reports - the more information the merrier!

Thanks!

I crash mainly when I am exiting the SL client. Never bothered me much, since I was quitting anyway. Does this on both my desktop and laptop. Weird...

I usually crash right after I login or after I have been playing for a few minutes. A DOS window pops up with a title bar that says: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe. There is no text in the DOS window itself. I noticed when I crash while playing, everything seems to slow down a bit and then it crashes. Have to reboot the computer.

Darwin=Doug?

Ok, either you're one in the same or Darwin is psycho, er psychic. :p ;)

Thanks for the info and I'll keep sending the crash reports as they happen.

Apparently I'm getting much too predictable... Either that, or it's time to start looking for the remote cameras in the office. ;)

Maybe he used the Who's Online page, which shows who is browsing what threads, who is replying to what thread, etc. I use that all the time.

I'm watching you...

OK, it appears that we've been able to track down this problem (at least Carrera's), thanks to Ian Linden managing to discover a reproducible test case. Look for an upcoming release to fix this.

Doug, or anyone, can you give us some idea of what information is automatically collected by the crash reporter? That way we know what sort of information isn't there, which gives us a better idea of what information we should type in to the comment box. Thanks!

I definitely hope it's fixed in the next release. I'm crashing very frequently too... most often when I teleport home while everything is drawing in around me... kaboom. Happens about 50-75% of the time when I teleport back to my home location. Sometimes it happens randomy in other locations as well, even if I've been there for a while, without any noticeable common cause.
