I have just about had it here.
I no sooner finish spending almost two hours making a new helo, named Octopussy and painted a wicked pink, than I went to Abbotts and purchased one of Cubey's helo kits. Actually, I bought two.
I stick the scripts into my Octopussy and voila, happy little camper - for about two minutes. I fly towards Oak Grove heading for Morris and all seems fine. Silly me. As soon as I hit the Fame/Bethel sim crossing border, my helo disappears.. my script disappears and I get stuck in a seated position with no Stand Up buton. Before you ask, I already did the bug report... so what.
I am now out a brand new aircraft, a script I just paid for, two hours of my time (valueless to anyone but me apparently) and 15 additional minutes looking around trying to figure out wtf happened?
As you can see, I am really pissed off, as unladylike as that is to say...and Momma would be embarrassed for this Soouthern belle. But really.. this didn't happen before 1.5....at least not nearly as often.
During that two hour build period, I lost three prims that just disappeared - one when I clicked on it, one when I released it (by clicking elsewhere) and one only God know how (I turned around and it was gone when I turned back).
If this keeps up, I - who has two annual subscriptions for alt accounts - am basically going to have to leave because it's not worth the angst this is causing in my life. One of my alts has some $500 real dollars sunk into this place in land. I'll have to yard sale it and count my losses I guess. Come on Linden Labs.
What are you going to do? When are you going to fix this? You might be able to give me back my money $L or even $USD), the script, the helo, etc... but you can't compensate me for the frustration or the time this has wasted. My experience is on the verge of being ruined.

This is a very serious problem. I managed to give Phil a good demo of it a while back, during a balloon tour. For some reason, on some sim borders, avatars are unseated and thrown to the ground. The vehicle, of course, sails on happily and vanishes forever. You then have to relog because the vehicle won't release your avatars controls.
Please, LL, try to fix this one.

I just wanted to publicly thank Cubey for replacing the lost script without even being asked. It's this type of selfless assistance that makes me keep rethinking my urge to leave and avoid this frustration.
Please Linden Labs, take a page from Cubey's book here and pay some attention to this problem!

i heard it was cubeys scripts. I would definantly pursue damages and such i mean if you were thrown to the ground you are sure to have suffered injurys! Just kidding.. this happens with cars too and its ashame.. really makes driving/flying suck. HOPE THEY FIX IT!

I find that the vehicle flies on forever, disappears (forever) if I fly into a sim which is down (whether on purpose or because it crashed) and, as mentioned, I have to relog because it wont release my controls. If I am flyiong into a normal sim, usually my vehicle doesnt vanish, but I go ploughiing into the ground for sometimes several seconds, then maybe bounce along phasing rhrough objects, before finally righting itself at some unexpected location in the sime i flew into - after which everything is more or less fine until i try to fly into another sim. ...and yet sometimes I have no problem crossing sim borders. And its not just vehicles. If my av is wearing any attachments, they sometimes vanish too. Its wierd, and I can appreciate how frustrating it is for people. I am trying to make a flying pleasure cruiser - but it wont be much pleasure if my passengers get all messed up and have to relog -Shiro PS Cubey, your vehicles and flyight scripts are great!

Did Aria complain about the money investment? No...other than losing the cost of the script. Did she express angst about the loss of time? Yes. Obviously. Did she say anything about going broke? No. She mentioned a relatively sizable investment in the game - not as a means of asking for pity, I don't think. Rather, she did so to show she is "invested" in the game. As for guns and heads they should be pointed at....hmmm, speel Levy..born 6/18/04....given 28...total received ratings 23/16/8.... yep.. definite troll...oops I meant alt... SURE I DID. Get off her case.

I've had this happen to me on a regular basis when I'm testing new vehicles. I've never actually lost a vehicle to it, though. Usually the vehicle will continue along its course until it heads off-world and lands back in my inventory. Occasionally, though, it'll run up against something and get stuck until I chase it down (or someone returns it to me a month later!)

Always Keep Backups !!

quote ... "I have just about had it here. I too have experienced dissapearing prims while building. So this is a problem that needs fixing. But I will give one liitle bit of advice ... always and regulary take copies of whatever you are building into your inventory. That way at least, you will not lose everything !!

It is an unfortunate situation. I have lost plenty of vehicles over the nearly 18 months I have been here. I didnt labor creating them, but they did cost me money. I got a ton of vehicles that no longer work due to script changes in various updates. It sucks that someone can spend L$500 and then have it just disappear or quit working.
Maybe I have the wrong attitude, but I just accept that this may happen and I carry on. Hopefully it will be fixed someday, or at least a more reliable means of retrieving lost items will be in a future update. Im here for the long haul, regardless.
Another way to look at it, shit happens. You may get in a car wreck and total your car in RL, or lose everything in a housefire. This is not a real comfort I know, but all this stuff in SL is just virtual stuff and can get lost or break anytime. Make copies, do what you can to preserve your work, and carry on.

i had this problem and my solution was every so offten do a sensor repeat (about once every 5 seconds with the key of the person), and if it didn't find the owner it turned off physics. I made it because i had a vehical i was tweaking and it flew off without me and i only got it back after it went offworld 5 sims away. If it weren't for the fact that it was in new sims and there were no buildings I might never have gotten it back.
This has been a problem with SL as long as i've been in SL. When i was i joined a group of wood elves in riding a cube across the many sims. We were falling off the cube all the time. But that was when there were fewer sims...

Hah! My cube riding experiment. That was fun. Ahh. Those were the days.
The grid was way smaller back then too. Going from Seacliff to Magenta with all those detours seemed like a long journey.
People didn't fall off -too- often though, and usually only when the cube was too close to the 'void'. People that were caught between it and the cube were the first to fall off, especially if their connections were slow.

Please, LL, try to fix this one. and to make things worse you cant track the lost vehicle based on your current heading. while you are left in a sit anim struggling to move areound lika a poor idiot rthe vehicle is happily accepting your controls and steering away.

From: someone Originally posted by Cornelius Bach This is true but n SL not everything is copyable either. That's true, but when I was working on my flyer based around Cubey's helo script, I took copies of all my work at each stage of development. I still have several iterations in my inventory, just in case I screw something up or the fates screw it up for me. And its come in handy, too. While I feel the pain of all that lost work, its a good idea to back up your creation before flying it around.

That happened to me yesterday. There I was, flying my attack helicopter, a wonderful Cornelius Bach creation, and all of the sudden I am still flying, but a the bottom of the sea with no chopper. I could not do anything, as my avatar thought I was still flying. I had to log out and log back in. I went looking for my chopper, but never found it. I hoped that I would see it in my lost and found this morning, but I think it is gone forever. State Farm, where are you?

Turn off surface patch and look at 0,0 of the sim you were leaving and the sim you were entering. Turn on object beacons, and look at that corner (0,0), deep underground. Secondly, of course yes backups should be made, (an in world copy should never be an 'original')... But, as for the "no one put a gun to your head" post, I don't see what that has to do with losing work due to a bug. Is losing work due to a bug a valid thing to complain about only if someone put a gun to your head to get you to do it? There are cheaper ways to show your machismo than trolling SL.
