Sometimes talk needs to be replaced by action. I am going to try to organize a group of people who want to sponsor / advertise cool/fun events.

MERCHANTS
If you are a merchant who wants to sponsor/advertise, please IM me and I will create a database of people to contact for events. If you think it worthwhile, we can create a group to make communication easier. If you know of someone who would participate but doesn't read the forums, IM them to IM me.

LAND OWNERS
If you are a land owner who wants to pay to have events on your land, also IM me.

EVENT PLANNERS
If you are an event planner and want to turn to this group for sponsorship, please send something similar to what you sent LL -- description of event, number of people at last event, length of time, etc. I will compile and communicate with interested sponsors.

HELPFUL CITIZENS
If you want to help me manage this, please let me know... my time is limited, but I think this is important to kickstart. Note on time issue: I'm only in-world at night so please don't expect immediate responses. We may also organize events where planners/entertainers can come talk directly to a group of sponsors.

I really think these changes have the potential to make events MORE profitable for those who make really good ones, and thus make SL MORE fun for us all. Evolution is good!

We're (Phobos Design) would be interested in sponsoring events for advertising... depending on the event.. We used to do this and it worked well.

I may be interested in hosting creative contests and non-dancing social events at South Grignano. Send me an IM in-world, please :)

I have an event stage in Freelon that anyone is welcome to use free of charge to host events at, and I'm more than willing to donate prizes or sponsor events.

Forseti, will there be any charge for this service? Like a percentage?

After the rebuilding of my shop will be completed the dance floor/stage on the roof will be still available for whoever wants to host events.

No, I was not planning on charging for this. This is an attempt to have the user community take matters in hand and create solutions in response to the changes that LL just put into effect.

I don't know why this got moved to Classifieds. This is not a "product".

Thank you to those who have responded. If this appears to get some traction then we'll move forward. LL - moving this to classifieds will not help spur dialogue on this.

This post was inadvertantly moved to the classifieds as it sounds very much like a new service, upon review it will be moved to the Events discussion forum as it lends itself well to that forum and will hopefully foster more interesting discussion there.

I am the manager and events co-ordinator for Gravity Space Station, built and funded by the Bedazzle Team. I would love to continue our quality events with prize donations in exchange for advertising the donator's biz. Please contact me (Dreams Lightcloud) by IM and we can work out any details.

Thanks for taking action on this. I am an events coordinator with rl and sl experience out of work so yay. currently my sceners competition has secured funding from a grant by users to continue through the end of the month. After that, I will seek sponsorship through February. Will there be some sort of rating for events still? I like to be clear when something is mature and when it isn't. Also, are sponsors interested in having their products or names associated with mature events? And if so, is SL gonna look like disneyworld before too long? *crosses fingers and hopes not*

Thanks for the post Cherry and everyone. So far Cherry has been the only event planner I've heard from, but this post was probably worthwhile if for no other purpose than for planners to see some of the wonderful folks who've offered to sponsor or host events. It is at least now a reference point.

In some ways, it is interesting that there hasn't been more of a response... /me ponders whether some people like protesting more than doing something about it....

I know that there was talk about a "business community" group that was all about ethical business standards and the like... has that made any progress? That would also be a good forum for event organization/sponsorship. Or maybe we'll start seeing advertising brokers in SL the way they exist in RL.

OK, RATE is still there, and we really do need to get together for an hour even if only to see what's going on. It's going to be needed more than ever now.

As to making contact for sonsorship. I don't plan on bidding for ad rights. I will sponsor events which I personally like the sound of. I'll negotiate the amount with the event planner, along with details. I'll put some thought into a professional ad package over the next few days and see if I can come up with something useful.

Note. As well as cash prizes/dj fees, I can provide clothing by way of prizes. This will of course be from my own range initially. If any of Mochastyle's merchants are interested in having their own wares used for this project, then please could they contact me, and we'll get some specific banners set up.

Thank you all.

I love this idea!!
01-15-2005 12:24
When I started Phantasie Isle last February, I was spending much time contacting all my venders for donations to givaways on the radio. Most all of them donated goods and Lindens.

It's a really good idea, however I got tired of chasing them down each week for the prizes, after awhile even though it was in a sense advertising the venders wares on the radio. I did'nt have the time to chase them down and I at times felt like a begger. So I stopped giving away prizes and just gave money.

I would love to see this develope and evolve, if I can be of any assistance in this please let me know.

Phantasie Isle will continue to sponser events like always only now I will be asking one of the people who love PI to help me with the contacting the venders for prize donations to take the place of Linden support.

I believe that as many people who listen to PI station and come to the events, this will be a very good advertising idea.

I hope you can get this off the ground for everone as it's a good idea!!!!!

Let me know if I can do anything.

Business Sponsorships

Great idea. I just want to ask one question: did you pay your events hosts and do you still? Or is it this hosting work (including vendor contribution calls) that is going to be unpaid now? I am trying to make a parallel with the rl world when funding shifts of this sort happen. Generally some of the work that WAS paid becomes Unpaid and much of that work is done by women. Since, as far as I can tell, events hosting is done largely by women, I an curious to see if this makes a significant number of women's paid work now unpaid. Can you tell me, did you pay your events hosts before? and if so, will you still be able to offer them any kind of financial stipend or job to run events? and if so, you hiring? *grins*

When I started Phan Isle I was the only host/DJ i did it all. Then when I had events the prizes donated from venders be it Lindens or Products, I kept in a folder with their names on it. With each event I picked 3 sponsers and gave their prizes out that event and advertised for them.

Once we got to the island and we started having more DJ's and More Hosts, it was hard to get them all into the advertising for vender mind frame, they just wanted to play music.

To answer your questions. Yes when the hosts started doing events I pay them $250L, and I supply the DJ pay for that event, the hosts gave away $500L prizes for LL support and they had $250L from me and $250L from LL.

With the new no support way. I will still pay $250L for each event and supply the DJ, however the prize money/Products will have to come from donations from venders or people who wish to have their Names or products advertised on the air to the vast amounts of traffic PI gets.

The Lindens no longer support events that are not educational I believe that this will in turn lead to 100's of "learn to rez a box" events.

However I feel the games like Tringo, Bingo, Scrambler, Poker etc, will be purely donation "pay to Play" funded and they will strive as usual. It's the party events that will be hurt by this, that is where the vender donations of products and Lindens will be needed, also it's advertising for them so I know alot will donate.

It just got to be way to much work for me to deal with, once we had more Hosts, DJ's and the Island. I just quit doing it. But now I will do this again.

Sorry if I was a lil long winded, sometimes it's hard to not be for me :P

Thx so much ASHA!!!!

As long as we can keep the DJ's advertising and saying their names, and if they get more sales out of it. Maybe it won't feel like begging, but collecting for advertising.

We could make up a bill and send to them each week for advertising. lol

I dunno however we will figure something out.

SilverDay Productions has donated prizes in the past. I am thinking of expanding this to complete sponsoring of selected events. This would inlude L$ as well as prizes and the optional use of the SilverDay Productions Eventarena.

Contact me (Till Stirling) if you think your event should be sponsored by us!
