FREE LAND - Land Angels giveaway

Mmm, this is something I have been pondering about for long time. And now I think the time has come that it might be feasible.

Many people have been unhappy about small size and few prims of 512sqm newbie land. At same time there are people who want tier down and don't know better than to release their land. Then that land ends up with people who use land scanners. Not the best situation IMHO.

So now I started the Land Angels group. This is how it works:

o If you are newbie with 512sqm newbie land, you can now trade your newbie land for 1024sqm of Land Angel land.

o The land angels sell the 512sqm land they get and that money is used to buy more 1024sqm low price newbie parcels to trade away

o I don't want be involved in any of the buying or selling activity here as it may appear to be in some way conflicting with my for profit land business

o Land donations are welcome

o Money donations are welcome

o Land tier donations are welcome too!

o Active participation is welcome!

I started the project donating about 10000 sqm of land in Moen and Takalo. I hope this is one start and more people will support. I am practical girl, not girl of political theory. If you are practical too, this might be your chance to actually help make 1024 sqm for the newbie a reality for more members of Second Life community

This is going to go over well.. i cant wait to see how many people post here.. i can count several flaws and there are many more here with a much more keen eye than myself so i guess we shall just sit back and watch a rerun of the salem witch trials take place in this very thread.

Yeah, she's donating land to a worthy cause. Lets burn her at the stake.

And Microsoft makes substantial charitable contributions that were funded in large part by their monopolistic and predatory control of a major industry. I doubt their karma has been balanced by the action, though.

Actually, I think this is kind of a cool idea.

As long as the newbs are fully aware that by tiering up they'll be charged extra real life fees, I think it's great. A lot of newbies to the game, once they realize how little 512m2 of prim allotment goes, would definitely appreciate a cost effective way to try out something a little bit larger if so inclined. And being new, well, money isn't going to be abundent for them anyway unless they're buying it off world.

I like it. I hope it works out. Wish there had been something like this when I started.

Why do I get the feeling there's 10000m2 in Moen and Takalo that have been rotting on the vine sucking up someone's tier.

On the other hand, this sounds like a good program for the newbies that get ahold of the extra 512m2.

Every charity move has an angle to it. No one except vertu has charity things without an angle besides to help people. Im wondering if this wont be like the heroin effect.. you know you give someone a little freebie and next thing you know there hooked and wanting more and you overcharge overcharge and overcharge. Or you just get your name so well known with a charity and charity type things that when you sell land people trust you because they think naw that person isnt here to make money they want to help people so they wont overcharge me! we all know how the rest of the novel goes.

It's called the benefit of rational self interest folks. It's pretty much what drives our world.

Also, Bill Gates's charitable-giving got off to a slow start. Hiistorically he gave a lower percentage of his net worth to charity then other wealthy people in American.

Gate's percentage of net worth donated was well below national averages. Once the media begin reporting this and showing other wealthily people of much lessor net worth were given proportionally much hight percentages of their net wealth - only then did he begin to give a greater proportion of his wealth.

Better late than never, eh?

The man has always intended on giving away all of his net worth.

He has always, and I mean always, been against inheritance as it rewards the lucky and not the meritous.

Why is there this constant need on SL forums to be insulting or taking someone down a notch?

if nothing else. this project will prove whether the community at large trusts anshe as a person or not.

it may help improve the common perception of her attitude and motives if it pans out. in fact, if some people get involved, the whole thing takes off like a shot, and anshe removes herself from the group confident that the people involved will continue as planned, everyone would have to admit that she started a good thing to no tangible benefit to herself.

if the whole thing turns out to be a land laundering scheme using dozens of newly referred alts, that'll be readily apparent as well. but only if some of our faithful community police, the ones constantly pointing out anshe's evil ways and expecting us all just to agree with them, join up and participate.

Newbie trades 512 for 1024, which gives Newbie more land to play with.
Anshe sells said 512 for a few grand (or more, depending), and gets to tier down slightly after each transaction.
The way I see it, everybody wins.

Actually I don't want sell the 512s. I would prefer somebody else not involved with land business do and use the money to help add more 1024s to the group. Ideally, this project would function with as little involvement of me as possible.

I also invited several people who have been very critical of my business and of land trading in general, to join the group as officers. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, none of those people joined. There was not even an IM to tell me why. Several nice people joined though and there has been contributions coming in

Anyway, everybody who wants swap his/her First Land for 1024sqm in Moen or Thakalo or... mmm... another sim, forgot where, lol. Anyway, we have 12 * 1024 sqm to pass out now, just waiting for people who want upgrade from 512m to 1024m

While it comes nowhere near the funds raised by VERTU, the Friends of the Iraqi War Memorial raise funds, with 100% of the money being distributed to 3 non-profits. Kiss my ass if you think I have some "angle" in this.

Ace, you misunderstan me..im not saying you have an angle to rip people off or anything and your charity surely didnt come to mind when writing that. But anyway you do have an angel for it. It might be to show your pride or increase awareness of how many were killed i dont know. But i suggest you read the rest of my post and understand we were talking about one charity. And lastly i find your bite me and kiss my ass comments to be pretty immature and am suprised you would say these things to me! please read my previous post and you will better understand.

let me see if i understand this before i start talking like ace and tell people to kiss my ass or bite me. So basically you want to get other people involved in land baroning and to sell the 512's for a profit so more 1024's can be bought thus justifying the over priced 512's being sold? Im not sure if i understand this correctly im sorry if i have gotten it wrong but please correct me.

If you consider being charitable an angle, then I suppose you're right. But that is the ONLY motivation. We're being charitable to the families of those that have fallen in Iraq, and to the citizens of Iraq who's country is being is being ravaged by war.

While I concur that "bite me" and "kiss my ass" might be a bit on the immature side, I'll stand by my comments. They still apply.

i think this project is a great idea, and i have donated a small amount of my trading tier to it. once the vertu auction for House 1 takes place i plan to allocate more of my tier to this cause.

if this project proves succesful, it might indicate to LL that they should incorporate 1024 lots into the L4L program, allowing players to switch up or down between 0 - 512 - 1024 fairly freely.

regardless of what anyone personally judges anshe's motivation to be, the ends is that anshe is making a substantial contribution to begin a program to help promote SL and and make land accessible amongst new players who are wary of spending larger sums of RL$ on virtual land.
