Are there plans to pay the playwrights? That's probably the best way to get good scripts.

No. This is all volunteer for now. If we find a way to generate revenue, we will probably start using existing scripts (under copyright). For the present we will operate under something like the GNU open source agreement. I have a script and am donating it the the group. Upo is already writing a script for a video.

I've been tinkering with the Idea of a Live Theatre Group (The Second Life Royal Shakespreare Company, or something like that). I've been working on a Large, but Mobile Theatre building, and working out a few of the technical problem in performing live (Set changes, Costuming, sound systems Etc.).
What i really want to Know.
Are there people out there Interested in Joining and Committing to a Live Theatre group, and are there people willing to allow space on their land for One or two days so the theatre can be set up, and one or two performances done?

I have no Hard schedule as yet, But i would like to know how much Interest there would be in such a venture and perhaps speak to some Like Minded people.

Angel.

Very nice idea! I hope this works out because I'd like to see.

It is working out. We have an active live theater group: ACT UP. We will begin rehearsals in May and plan to open when the voice capability comes to the main grid.

We will be based at Broadway Live Island. It has 3 theaters available for such use. One presented the musical in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckUUhh6ywP0

Information about Broadway live Island is here:

http://www.broadwayliveisland.com/about.html

We ar presently looking for scripts, as described in my recent post to this thread.

A broadway / theature group was something that I've started thinking about aswell, interestingly enough... since the annoucement of voice chat. creating an avatar to match a character is easy, but the illusion of being brought in, is more difficult, and I really hope the voice chat part will help, casting auditions can help find people with voices that match the character desired, the actors themselves have it kinda easy since they can read from a text file, tho rehearsing will still be needed for timings and avatar movements...

I have set up a TeamSpeak server for the Act Up group. That will allow them to do audio rehersals before the voice chat is avaiulable. I think we already know people who can do good voice acting, although maintaining consistency will probably require practice. I hope to see some people create continuing characters and appear in multiple skits or plays. That would probably call for the person to write for the character as well as to voice it.

The Act Up group now has several plays to work with and is somewhere in rewriting/rehearsal. It is working with Broadway Live Island (Tom Polum) and will do its opening performances there.

I see this venue as a great opportunity to teach creative writing for stage and screen. I believe, if we can find someone with time and credentials to teach such courses, we can link them eLumenata University.

I hope anybody who is interested in projects like this will contact the Act Up coupr or me.

Improvateers

Charter--
Goal: To promote improv performances in SL. Steps: 1. Create organized performances by setting time, place, and theme. 2. Capture performances on audio and video. 3. Edit and post on YouTube. 4. Iterate ad lib.

Open membership. Join to get notices of performances: time, place, and themes. Audio will be managed and recorded on TeamSpeak. Thinkerer Melville will capture, edtit and post on YouTube. Other video makers may attend and make their own videos. Avatar and voice performances welcome. You can do either or both. Interesting avs, animations, sounds, displays, pets, objects, and surprises are encouraged.
The VO may comment on the visuals. Comments will not always be favorable, so leave your feelings in the dressing room. VO, with voice actors, may also create speech for the visuals

Continuing characters, voice or av, will be of particular interest. If you are working on routines, characters, voice acting, plays, writing, acting, or anything related to entertaiment, you are welcome to come and try out your material.

For more info, contact Thinkerer Melville or Geo Meek.

The groups I am working with are ActUP and the Improvateers. The Act up group has both rehearsal facilities and theaters at Broadway Live Island. We are working with Trip Potvin, (Tom Polum, a Broadway producer and owner of the island). The Improvateers will use my island, Thinkerer Quests, when they need facilities. Imrpv does not necessarily require a theater.

Anyone interested in seeing live theater can join the Act UP First Nighters group to keep up with progress. We are doing auditions and rehearseals now. We expect to open as soon as voice is available and stable on the main grid. We hope in early July. We have enough scripts to open with, but are eager for more scripts. Anyone with a story idea for a one-act play should contact Westwind Ackland or me.

We normally use Skype or my TeamSpeak for voice conferences.

Good scripts that lead to good productions will probably be redone as videos and posted on my YouTube channel:
http://www.youtube.com/selbyevans

Maybe that's a good way for budding writers to produce a portfolio.

The answer

Does this answer your question?

The Act Up Theatre Group recently held auditions for a Potpourri of One Acts, and the cast has been obtained for three one act plays; Cold Feet at a June Wedding directed by Westwind Ackland, The Thinkerer directed by Marin Mielziner, and One Lilttle Indian Boi directed by Upo Choche & Kimmi Jewell. With all three plays, we have a total of 20 actors and actresses from Second Life who are excited to be a part of the first live production for Act Up Theatre. Our first production is scheduled for June 30th 2007 at 11:00am and 1:00pm PDT during the Second Pride 2007 Festival. We plan to utilize the new voice stream coming into Second Life for our live productions and are excited to offer the residents of Second Life what is only the beginning of live theatre. At this time we have three additional offers on the table and are certain that after our first production we will receive more offers from venues interested in life theatre. We truly feel that this is only the beginning for Act Up Theatre. -- Kimmi Jewell

Rehearsals
06-04-2007 16:16
I'm loving watching the birth of live theatre in this thread.
I may not yet be skilled enough in Second Life to really help out. But I will be in attendance for any and all performances.

No chance of sitting in on a rehearsal, just to see what's happening, is there? I'm an actor and director and could offer up another eye, or just a supportive look-in?

There is a second group, th Act Up First Nighters, specifically for people with an active interest in live theater in SL. It is open enrollement. You can look it up and join. Attending open rehearsals would be one of the advantages of the First Nighters group. I can't guarantee that arrangements to notify about rehearsals are working yet, because organization is not one of our strong points. But we will do it. So join the group, look up the owner, and see if you can help get things going.

Thers is another group, the Improvateers, working on improv presentations. (By improv here, I mean that performers make up their own material.) We have one very active project that is ready for open rehearsals. This is a stand-up comedy act witth the working title of "Lauren." You would be welcome to attend rehersals. You would also be welcome to offer suggestions and new material.

Lauren is intended to be a continuing act with successive performances introducing new material. When we have a good performance, I will make a vid and put it on YouTube.

To get involved in "Lauren," contact me (Thinkerer Melville). Voice rehersals (for now) are done on my teamseak server. Our rehearsal theater is on my island, Thinkerer Quests.

The Act Up group is particularly in need of writers. Contact me (Thinkerer Melville) or Upo Choche. If you are interested in performing what you write, look at the Improvateers group and contact me. Same goes if you are interested in working with the people who perform what you write.

Comedy anyone?

Comedy anyone?

I am looking for comedy acts. Or comedy writers. Lauren Weyland has cut the trail. She did a live stand-up act at the Globe last Saturday. Showed that somebody could do it. Now we are getting some interest from possible venues. So here's the deal --

If you are interested in performing live comedy in Sl -- or writing for performed comedy -- contact me, or Geo Meek, or Lauren Weyland. You don't have to be ready with an act or a script. Just give us an idea of what you can do. We'll work with you to develop an act or find a performer to use your work. As a performer, you might work onstage with Lauren. That way you could begin with a short routine in front of an established audience. As a writer, you might start by writing new material for Lauren.

Later, if you expand your work, I would help you publicize your act and find venues. If you get really good at it, I will make a video and post it on Youtube. (No cost to you for any of this.)

I an interested in working with Stand-Up singles, doubles, and groups. I am also interested in working with one-act plays -- and so is the Act-Up theater group.

One word of caution -- it takes hard work to make comedy look easy. But if you are interested, make the contact. You have nothing to lose but your mind.

Check it out: Lauren Live
