[Update] Please see /327/fa/266992/1.html#post2048040 which is replacing this thread.

Second Life's 5th Birthday Celebration has begun! The Celebration was Openned by Lindens Lab's very own Philip and M Linden! The speech was streamed into the SL5B Sim and into areas accross the Grid! Areas included Waterhead, Ahern, Linden Estate Services and SLVEC.

Hundreds turned up to watch and to listen to the openning speeches, which were amazing! The sims soon filled up with green dots, and made most of the sims full.

There will be Live Performances and Displays of Culture and Second Life for 2 weeks, with more speeches durin the Second Week!

Residents can explore the sims, meet new friends and view Cultures from all around Second Life...

To get there go to 'Map' and Search for "SL5B" then Teleport, there's 20 sims to explore!

For more Information see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SL5B
and http://blog.secondlife.com/

The openning speeches can be downloaded and listened too, and images can be found, for example of the amazing rolling benc that had Dusty Linden, and a few others on it... : D This call be found via wiki and the blog!

What did you think of the Event so far? Have you been yet? What's your favourite Exhibit so far, what would you like to see and what are you looking forwards to?

We wanna hear from YOU!

Enjoy the event! : D

I was very impressed by the SL5B sims yesterday, I had trouble getting in to the main stage area as it was full but awe inspiring stuff.

I'm afraid I can't say the same about the SL5B wiki page, it is next to useless apart from the links to the sims. It goes on at great length about how to exhibit and stuff which is totally out of date now and the calender of events is unfinished (actually it's not even started!). The latest update is from the 22nd saying that "the sims are going to be closed tomorrow".

Is it possible for somebody to update it with a proper programme of events like what is going on where and when during the festivities? It would be very useful. I know there is probably such a think in-world but a simple web page listing the schedule would be great.

After all the people that have put a huge amount of effort into organising this event, surely it's not impossible to keep the website up to date to promote the events they have gone to all the trouble of organising.

.

Exactly!! I totally agree Gaz. I went to the sims yesterday and on seeing just how much is there wanted to know what was being shown in each sim and what events would be coming up. I'm surprised that LL has been so lax in this area. Not everyone is going to have the time to explore every single thing being shown there, and many will want to visit what interests them most. Bit of an oversight LL - too much exitement and cake eh??

I sent a notecard to as many organizers and Lindens involved in this event 5 days ago to point out the fact that there was NO publicity for any of these exhibitors and major roadblocks in place to stop those that wanted to created their own publicity for their exhibit. The organizers said 'next year' and the Linden from the marketing department I was told was in charge of the marketing for this event declined my notecard and refused to discuss it. Egos.

I listed a classified on Sunday before the opening and had 35 teleports to my exhibit from the classified by Monday afternoon. Even sending out a notecard to the exhibitor group explaining how to make a 50L classified would have helped. SignpostMarvin did send out something about posting in eventful - but that seemed as obscure as the wiki.

SL5B ORGANZIERS: Please make a effort to make even a NOTECARD with event times and SLURLS to events on each island. Assign volunteers to make this happen starting NOW and have them completed by THURSDAY of thsi week so the weekend of week one can be a success. Help exhibitors coordinate their event times so they do not destroy each other's events with excessive lag. Come on. This is what ORGANIZERS do.

I'll go and do my best tp Update the Wiki now.

We don't KNOW when every Exhibitor is having an Event, the events for week two are on the wiki.

On the Wiki under Other Useful Links.

We did our best to list the plots at the Event. but there's 20 sims and other jobs took priority.

Enjoy the event! : D

Hi, Meghan. Note that there are 8 threads on SL5B .. what, where, how, reactions etc. ... already over in the Resident Answers subforum.

Use "Search / Advanced", and search for SL5B in a thread title.

Many people already posted how useless the wiki is for posting events. Blondin Linden posted one of my events there and no one, including me, can locate it.

My week two multi-lingual classes are not in the wiki. I have not been told to give them to anyone to have them publicized. And I am sure there are many more that are not posted there. Most won't touch the wiki because of the SL5B Organizer who posted the slurls to the main stage and was banned from posting in the wiki for a month.

This is a very bizarre statement. The SL5B Performers have a external websitehttp://194.105.128.108/SL5B/html/modules/whois/ I'm not sure why 4 organizers can't appoint 4 people each to gather notecards and put the info on a excel sheet - then upload it to google docs and share it.

Oh I found my 1st week events in the wiki - listed under week two.

The displays are wonderful. It is great to see SL come to life like this.

But, there are some things that can be improved...

One of the big problems for exhibitors is marketing. For example, I can't get my SL5B parcel to show up on the events creation page, which means no events at my place and others who are in a similar position.

Also, a master directory of exhibits would help a lot. There is so much to see, but it's all kind of random and people just sort of wander, which is okay if you're close to the teleport hub, but not so great for outlying exhibits.

SL5B is a great idea, and what I've seen so far is inspiring. I just wish we could fix the marketing side of it because this stuff represents the best side of SL and deserves to be seen by everyone.

@ Lias.

Yes ther performances are very well documented and scheduled, I do agree. But that's the performance team doing that, they only deal with Stages and Performances. That's a tough job I agree please don't get me wrong but the Coordinators have muc more to do, and the whole event to take care of. All main events are listed and the weel two events are listed, there's a link on the wiki but we havn't and couldn't make a list of EVERY exhibitors events, this would take too long. We've been going along and listing the parcels in search and exhibitors can put up a classifieds of their event and parcel and list it on the Second Life Events page.

Delegate.

To say that every thing else is more important than publicizing the resident's exibits is outrageous.

at 4AM my time I was still up begging the Organizer of Dwell Island to return my Search listing so I could post my events. She stated that NO ONE had a search listing to post events on so my request was out of the ordinary. I have never encountered a group so dead-set against marketing volunteer's efforts. I think we are all suffering in obscurity because LL wants to hide the kid exhibits.

Lias who is it that you spoke to? We're working on listing events, trust me. We were hit by a bug when trying to give Exhibitors to list their own parcels, so we couldn't do that.
