The 8 am test looks interesting. I wonder how it will turn out.

LOL I was testing the Calendar before I made it public, that's not an Event. : D No one has emailed any events in yet, so they wont be listed and the caledar will remain empty. I can't magic the details of events into my brain, exhibitors are going to have to email me them. I will add the keynotes to it shortly.

Oh, foolish me, I should have known not to go to a calendar of events to find events listed. Second Life events, at least. Are there any exhibits that aren't gray?

When Exhibitors email their event details in the events will be listed. You need to give the builds time to rez. : )

They are rezzed. The unrezzed objects don't show at all.
I just did what I was told - went to the wiki site, and took the link to the calendar of events. I think I'd rather not see links to empty calendars.
I guess it's more efficient to not be able to find anything on the 2D web than to not find it in SL.

How About A List Of Exibitors and LM's!
06-25-2008 08:31
After not being able to get in to SL5B on the first day and the video of the keynotes not working... ok... enough said about that. I came in today, intent on checking out the exhibit layout and identifying exhibitors I wanted to investigate more thoroughly. Unfortunately, I was NOT able to locate a list of exhibitors and their corresponding LM's. Doing a "Search" for SL5B yielded a link to the SL5B Wiki, but also to a score of links that are obviously Search Engine SPAM and have nothing to do with the SL5B event itself! The SL5B Wiki contains a ton of information that I'm sure is extremely useful for event coordinators, but has no value for the "general public!" Although I am not a professional event organizer, I have attended and exhibited at hundreds of trade shows in at least six countries. Based on this experience, I offer the following suggestions for an improved SLXB and similar events in SL: #1) Publish the event calendar using Google Calendar or a solution like Spongecell ( http://www.spongecell.com) that allows people to add events to their RL calendars and even receive reminders via email or SMS! * #2) List all exhibitors in a database list that can be searched, displayed and sorted based on exhibit category, exhibitor name or "booth number"/location. Make sure each listing contains a paragraph of description, thumbnail, LM to the exhibit and LM to the organizations regular in-world location, contact information an a URL to any corresponding web property. #3) Find a way to color either the grid itself or the roofs of exhibits or floating prims above the exhibits, so it is easy to use the map and a legend to identify exhibitors or events by category. * The overall state of the SL Event Calendars in SL is deplorable. Without aggressive moderation and punitive measures to weed out SPAM it's worthless.

@ Valiant WestlandWe've had a lot to work on and havn't had time to visit every single one of the hundreds of plots on the SL5B sims, mark it down and enter the details into a database, which would then probably be wrong when an exhibitor decided they wanted a plot change or we had to make a slight change to the layout. We did intend for every plot to be listed in place search but not all of them are, there's many reasons for that. There's a bug that does not allow Exhibitors to list their land as they're in the Everyone role of the Group, it's on the PJira. Some plots are too small to list in search (booths and kiosks under 512 land size) and so these plots can't list events etc. Staff have been going around and listing plots though, for the exhibitors. There is a google calendar with all of the keynotes on it, the link to that is in the top section of the wiki under more userful links, a notice went out InWorld about this and also on the Forums. Exhibitors now have the option to email events to us and we list them on that celendar, with the location and details if they cannot list the event themselves. At present not one person has sent me an event to listm that is why not many are listed. There's a Forum Thread on this Forum where people are posting SLUrls of Exhibitor the found that interest them and are worth a visit, I suggest you look there. I am taking them SLUrls and putting them onto a Wiki Table, the link to that will be on the Wiki shortly.

Exhibit Info Should Be In A DB To Start, Right?
06-25-2008 09:34
"We've had a lot to work on and havn't had time to visit every single one of the hundreds of plots on the SL5B sims, mark it down and enter the details into a database..."
Why wouldn't you use a web form for exhibit registration and have the prospective event exhibitor enter in all of their description and contact information? The approval process can include adding a specific location for the exhibitor in a particular area. All of this information can be updated and published in real-time, using off-the-shelf web 2.0 technology!
I just found the Google Event Calendar! You might want to consider more prominent links to this information. FYI... the thumbnail images for "Places Of Interest" and "Exhibitor Events" are hotlinked to the image file, rather than the desired content!

Update
06-28-2008 20:12
We've come to the End of an Amazing Week 1! : D We've still got Week 2 to go yet! With loads of fantastic things left to do! As you may know, after seeing a Forum Thread here (Yes I am here, I have been listening to your complaints, suggestions and feedback! ) where Residents were posting details and SLUrls to their favourite Exhibits, as a handy help guide for Attendees of the event I deicided to do a SL5B Locations of Interest wiki page, where these details are! http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SL5B_Locations_of_Interest Well, I've now listed EVERY SINGLE parcel that is on the SL5B Estate onto a larger table which can be found here; https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SL5B_Locations_-_Extended_VersionBecause we had some minor hiccups with land listing, I feel this table acts as an alternative to that, and also a quik guide to the Event Locations! No need to walk around 20 sims, if you're strapped for time just look at one of the location tables! You may be thinking this is a bit late, but it's not there's still a week of event left for looking around at exhibits. More info can be found at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SL5BIf you re parcel or Update a sim name at the Estate now it won't automaticly Update the Main Table that contains every parcel in it as this is a manual process. Please enjoy the rest of the Event!

"You do not have access to that teleport destination"
07-07-2008 08:44
Okay, I'm late, but I wanted to get to the event at least on the last day it's running.
But none of the slurls I've tried will let me in at all. I keep getting "Sorry, you do not have access to that teleport destination."
I'm a premium member, haven't had these sorts of problems before. What's up?

The Estate was closed for maintenance from 7am to 8:45am Second Life Time, so that setting up could be done before Mitch Kapor's speech. The Estate is Open to everyone now, so go take a look around and do some last minute sight seeing! : D
