Library textures missing from inventory?

Just the last few days, all but two of the default textures from the folder Library > Textures have disappeared from my inventory. All the folders containing Atoll, Ground, Fabric, Wood, etc. are gone.

Needless to say this is inconvenient... and if I have to purchase replacements for all these textures it could become costly to replace them.

Is this happening to anyone else or just me? If anyone else has had this problem, was it temporary?

Or, does anyone have giant boxes of freebie textures they would like to get rid of?

Try searching got one of tem, like doing an inventory search for 'Atoll'. Often the SL inventory indexing gets stuck, or takes a long time to get started. Until it indexes your inventory, many things won't show up - including the Library items! Doing a manual search will kick start the indexing process.

I usually find that I need to start a search right after I log in, or the first few times I want to texture something it takes *forever* to find any textures.

Thanks Ceera. Unfortunately, I tried that and it brought up all of my regular inventory items (thank heaven) but not the Library textures. I searched multiple times as each new search would only bring up a few more items, until my inventory was at its normal size. Tried searching for specific words and also for random letters or parts of words. Still no textures in library. /cry

I can only hope that it will resolve itself someday like the "missing inventory" bug... sigh...

Hummm. When you open your inventory folder and look, do you see the Library folder at all? I recall there is some sort of setting that will cause it to not display the Library items at all.

You may want to try uninstalling SL completely and doing a clean re-install.

Ceera, after doing this fun searching game, MOST of the Library folders and their contents appear, but consistently not the Textures. Well, there might be other missing ones, but I don't remember all of what is supposed to be in the Library since a lot of it I don't use.

I think it was Friday that it stopped loading this, the only changes I see between Thursday and Friday are rolling restarts and network issues.

If the library doesn't reappear in the next few days I will try reinstalling and/or updating client versions (currently using Nicholaz "bleeding edge-p".

Judging from the fact that you are the only one to reply it seems that this is "just me" so at least I know that much.

I'd try to clear my cache and see if that reloads them.

There are two interesting things in that first thread:

1. Sometimes getting someone to send you one of the missing textures as offered inventory makes them magically reappear. I would, but will not be inworld today. Someone else?

2. Jessica Elytis has already made boxes of the library textures to help people out who've had this happen. Try contacting her ...

Sue, yes, I clear my cache daily, hoping for things to rezz faster (in vain of course)... so that's not it...

Nika, thank you, I am perversely glad to hear that I am not the only one this has happened to. If it doesn't reappear I might also try contacting Jessica.

In the meantime, I did find a massive freebie box of "10,000 textures" on SLX, which will probably take me the rest of my Second Life to go through... maybe they are in there...

Not only me but also a friend of mine have recently (circa 18 November 2007) lost our library textures. makes building a royal pain. I can't add to things that I used the standard library textures. I use a lot of Atoll since I am on the ocean. Is there any way to recover the textures that anyone has found?

Try looking for freebie textures on SLexchange or in world... I did manage to find all the wood textures that I had before in freebie boxes.

To be honest I would rather do that than reinstall the SL client, but I suspect that a reinstall would solve the problem, as Ceera suggested.

The title is rather vague: "Library inventory missing", but the bug is: all subfolders within the Library/textures folder are gone. Only 20 votes so far.

The two remaining textures that usually remain are the ones not in subfolders.

Hi Malia. My Library textures disappeared a week ago (except for the 2 you mentioned). This happened about 2 months ago also. I cleared caches and reloaded SL...all 2 no avail. Then someone older and wiser then I said "sounds like an SL thing...they will come back one day" and viola they came back 2 days later. I never did find a solution so for now

I will close my eyes, click my heels 3 times and wish really really hard.

I'm having the same problem. All folders gone from Textures, only 2 textures remain.
I also have no subfolders under scripts, either.

I thought you couldn't delete Library items, they are different than regular inventory items and don't count in your Inventory count.

edit: The Animations folder is empty, too.

LL has had inventory problems (and a lot of others) this week, so you aren't the first one to report missing items. With luck, things will clear up by themselves. Meanwhile, go to the SL Knowledge Base and search on the phase "Lost Inventory." The first FAQ that comes up has some helpful suggestions about how to deal with real or apparent inventory loss.

Within the past 24 hours, I discovered this nicely written response to the same question on the SLED list:

"SL has asset servers all across the grid which all mirror inventory. Your hard drive
also has a mirror in a cache, and when you lose something, you usually lose it from your
cache. Most likely, your inventory is still on the asset servers (unless you waited too
long and the mirror updated with the new inventory that was missing your stuff). You need
to do these three steps as soon as you notice inventory loss:

1) Go to the network tab in preferences and click the button to empty your cache, then
log out. 2) Log back in and teleport anywhere across the grid far from your usual locale.
3) Open your inventory, and your cache will reload from a new asset server.

This may not restore purchases if it has been too long, but it usually will if you move
quickly (ie as soon as you notice the loss) and it will definitely restore your library.
This will not restore things you sell or give away."
