After reading the earlier thread: 70594, it occurred to me that it would take a fair bit of effort to put up very large text messages which are visible from the map - what with moving large objects, linking distance limitations, etc.
And so, enter 'The SimWriter'! (insert fanfare).
(This is not in 'New Products' because I'm not selling it)
This device accepts chat input and writes the message automatically, using a 5x6 pixel font character map. At the moment, the pixels are 10mx10mx0.5m (big font) or 0.1x0.1x0.1 (small font).
NOTE: Any object can be used as a pixel. I've tested using chickens to write words. Works well.
Other implemented features:
-word-wrap when hitting sim boundary
-word-wrap before hitting no-build zones
-phantom temp-on-rez pixels with die timer
-font is easily customisable, with M$ Excel
Unimplemented features:
-colour selection
-circular and spiral text
The small font is nice for making 3d signs etc., but the real strength is in the large font because although you could use 26 premade alphabet objects to spell things out (more prim efficient, and I might also make that), these 'pixel objects' are easier if you want the letters to be super large, e.g. 50x50m.
Anyway, I just thought I'd ask for general opinion on such a tool before considering releasing it. It can certainly be used to cover the sims with rude words but that's about it. Also, it still only works in build-zones so I figure it just makes it easier to do.
Your thoughts?
