Are they shutting the forums down because of such negative feedback?

Plus they may be looking for forum software that can be spread over multiple servers - if vBulletin software can't, then there's your reason. They have to build to the needs they forecast they're going to have in a year.

Personally, I wouldn't shut one service down until the replacement is ready to roll out, but apparently Linden Labs thinks otherwise.

As much as I don't like it, I think the decentralization efforts and negativity on the forums is leading/lead to their demise/restructuring. The Lindens *are* listening, but if all you're doing is bitching night and day about SL's problems, you're not being productive.
Just my L$10.

That is an interesting observation since the forums are one of the things that kept me in SL. I learned about how SL works, where to find cool builds and sims and stores and how to create things on the forums more than in SL itself. And made friends here I would have never met inworld.

Oh yeah. There's definately good things about the forums. Just sayin' there's alot crap too and that puts people off.

Well, when confronted with huge complaints about buggy patches there were two ways for LL to make the complaints go away:

- fix the bugs

OR

- close down the forums

hey presto, no more complaints about buggy patches, wasn't that easy?

I mean after hearing and reading that they are going to shut down all of the conversation forums, like General chat and The sandbox, i just wondered if they are doing this because of the spam when the patches come out and how negative residents are about Linden Labs.

It will be nice to be able to still talk about scripting in the scripting tips but im sure anything brought up about patches will be automaticly deleted and stuff..

*sigh*

More like shuting tyhem down so no one can read how much bugier each succesive, untested upgrade is making things.

I hate the pessimism that "LL is closing the fourms so they don't have to hear us whine"
Well, whining never did any good. Solid bug reports, however, do.

No. The forums are not getting their overhaul because of negative feedback. While the truth sometimes hurts, negative feedback is good and is not a reason we would close the forums.

How the fuck does Lindenspeak translate 'The forums are being closed' to 'The forums are getting an overhaul' ?? Atypical.

Oh, yes. I remember reading that the topic of the forums came up at that special focus group gathering you had. You know, the one where you flew a handful of people in for a tour and meet & greet? It was reported that everyone there agreed upon this.

Well, we had resmods. Hmm. No Linden expense there, from the link I've seen its practically free, hardly a resource hog when you got others doing your dirty work.

They speak of community? FORUMS is where communities gather. I'm sorry but I see no reasoning for LL to close these forums other than they're tired of hearing us whine and bitch about bugs not being fixed.

So long.. bug fixes.

Lets all sell our land and go back to basic. When Ll doesn't bring in any money i'm sure theil either go bankrupt or start caring.

LR has called that bluff before, and they won't hesitate to do it again.
