The grand-guardian of third party forum sites is Cristiano Midnight's forums.sluniverse.com.
Foolish Frost has an avatar identity verified site with the terrible name of SLDrama. Overlook the name. YASLF.com is also an avatar identity verified site, run by Kristian Ming. Clubside Granville has http://forums.slhomepage.com , which has the distinction of precisely copying the structure and forum descriptions of the Linden sites at the time he made it. Just get him to put up a picture with Amy Webber at the top right and you wouldn't even know you'd gone anywhere. Now if you really just have a question about SL, as opposed to wanting to start a thread in a forum, you might try Live Help, or emailing a member of the Community Relations team. I've gotten responses to questions from Torley, Jeska, Robin and others. I've gotten responses from support@secondlife.com at 2 in the morning. The IRC channel #secondlife can produce answers. I have heard that the Cult of Tateru in-world group is good, I am not a member so I can't speak from experience about that. There's a page on the secondlife.com website with links to third party forums and other resident websites, you can see a link to that on the forum pages here. There's also a forum for people to promote and discuss their resident run sites - reading that forum is a good starting point for those looking for new places to go when some of the forums here close. You might try checking the previous thread you started on this subject, and the thread that was linked to in the replies to your post. For just plain not related to SL matters, usenet was still running last time I checked. _____________________

Mulch stop trolling. In defense of Mulch, the OP asked for places and Mulch offered one. It was totally on topic. _____________________

Yes, I know, but in this case, it was information that was asked for.

Yes, I know, but in this case, it was information that was asked for. You think stuff posted there is an alternative to general forum here? I think every subforum there is like the sandbox + foaming rabid people dealing death threats at each other and pretend teenage. Ah the age-players I suppose? A forum that negative can't last, anyways this isn't about that forum so Id' suggest reading Suezanne's post. _____________________

People go to forums for different reasons, so people will be choosing various 3rd party sites based on those reasons. What SC offers will appeal to quite a few, I'd imagine. Not knowing Doubledown, I really don't know what s/he is looking for.

Not knowing Doubledown, I really don't know what s/he is looking for. But the OP is asking for an alternative to SL's General forum, Suezanne's answer was spot on. Mulch on the other hand posted some advert, about a site that is in no way an alternative to the General SL forum as the OP requested. _____________________

Actually, I suspect Doubledown wasn't looking for sites so much as lodging a protest against the closing of the forum. Eh, whatever. Each time I reply it adds to my post count. Come on 1,500!

Look at his posting history, everything is about .. oh blah.. http://... worse than Mr. Nerd. At least that's a bit mature in the Chuck Norris sense way of adverting. hey, how many drama threads were linked from here to SC BEFORE the forum closure was announced? there is a lot of activity this week, and SC contains the majority of it did you read the resident moderator rules that were given out to ResMods from LL? they appeared on SC this week for as far as i know, the 1st time publicly did you read the chat log with philip and the content creators? the one where he complimented thier looks (all female) and then proceeded to tell him he was unwilling to help with content theft? that happened at SC as well of course im going to promote it, i love it, its my home, but to my credit, i could use tricky ways to get people to click links sure i would love more people over there when this is gone, and i make no implication that i havent made sure people knew where to go to experience it as it happens, so i think i am being upfront and not nearly as "innocently oblivious" as some others marketing style but as i have stated, with over 800 members, we have an active community... i really wish some shopping and content creator and land merchants took advantage of the other sub forums that were added at SC to accomodate the influx of new users due to this forum going down... but really we were fine when the forums were open, we will be fine when they close but since the topic was asking, i think i have every right to have a simple , one line "brand awareness" policy http://forums.secondcitizen.com/ _____________________

Don't forget Lewis's Stratics & SL-Forum, Welcome Area, Any Gorean sim. Calling the Stratic's forum "Lewis's" gives undue credit or blame to Lewis and creates a false impression of the Statics forum. For sincere answers to questions about SL, the New Citizens's group and the Shelter are good places. Maybe these outfits should start a forum or get a group forum at an existing third party site. _____________________

I guess one could try talking to people using the Second Life client, but man, the chat system sucks. the IM's come in the same display as the proximity chat, you can't mute group chats, there's no persistent chat, and people will push you or shoot you with physical objects while you are trying to converse

I think Lewis is a supervisor of the whole SL thing @ stratics, not just the forum but the subsection. There are some alternative scripting forums, I can't remember the name, also the SL scripting wiki. _____________________

There are some alternative scripting forums, I can't remember the name, also the SL scripting wiki. I saw no evidence of Lewis's presence at stratics; he says he is not a moderator; the moderator names should be available there, but since it's not an avatar verified site, who knows - Grimmy Moonflower and Alby Yellowknife could be runing the whole and who would know? Lewis said he is something there, so he probably is something, but heck, I'm something in the Second Life forums - I run two group forums and it don't amount to doodly-squat. Still, it bears examination. _____________________

Still, it bears examination. You won't see "Lewis Nerd" there because I continue to post under my Stratics account created originally for the TSO forums, and didn't want to lose my post count. It isn't very hidden, my title "Content Manager" is quite clear, if you take a moment to look. I'm not "hiding behind an alt", I'm continuing to use a name that has an established presence there to show that I am a good contributor and part of the overall community rather than someone who just popped up like an unverified account and doesn't have a clue. After all, after 3 years and 10,000+ posts it does show that I am there seriously and not just a "one post troll". Does it matter *who* is doing what there, honestly? Why don't you go post there for a while, and see how it's run, rather than getting bogged down into deciding whether to go there because you aren't sure if you like the people involved or not.
