Since questions in the hotline are rarely answered ... There seems to be an option in 1.7 to allow your profile to be posted on the web, there is also an option to allow snapshots to be posted to the web. Will we have web based profiles that will include snapshots that we take in world? Can we get some more imformation on how this option is to be used in 1.7?

/3/61/66868/1.htmlFrom: someone - Added a "Publish on to web" checkbox to the Resident Profile UI and Postcard Dialogue UI * Controls whether information can be seen on the Second Life web site. (Profiles are always visible inside Second Life.) * Future updates to http://secondlife.com/ will enable items selected for publishing to appear there. That's all we know so far. Would be nice to know how exactly it will be used.

YEAH i POSTED THE SAME QUESTION IN THE 1.7 FORUMS: /142/70/66221/1.htmlAND NO ONES PROVIDED AN ANSWER THAT GIVES ANY MORE INFORMATION THAN WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW. 20 BUCKS SAYS THAT WE NEVER SEE THE WEBSITE SIDE OF THIS AS THE WEBSITE HARDLY EVER SEEMS TO GET ANYTHING FINISHED (I.E. FAKE STATISTICS AND ALOT OF PAGES STILL USING OLD TEMPLATES/LAYOUTS).

A web based resource of in world content (including profiles) would be cool. The one missing feature in the client is a method to opt in to making that information available. 1.7 will add that hook. As the release notes suggest the web side will not be available at 1.7 launch, and I do not know an eta or an expected feature set. Although I can drool over ideas like web-searchable in world info as much as the next resident.
I havn't posted to your hotline post because it asks for more specific information than I know.

Hey Kelly (hope you come back and read this again), Thanks for the added info. Let's say there was a highly-reputable, third party site out there - maybe one that's already working with LL - with the brains, ability and desire to make the web part of these web profiles get off the ground. Would LL be willing to work with said third-party website to get the information from the inworld profiles over to the third-party site?

^ that doesn't sound theoretical at all. Rather promising, actually, if I know where this is headed.

Use the price field to allow people to purchase advertised content directly from your profile, and from the SL web site, all with a single click. Now THAT would be an awesome feature.

From: Editorial Hare Use the price field to allow people to purchase advertised content directly from your profile, and from the SL web site, all with a single click. Now THAT would be an awesome feature. Someone the other day asked me what I thought LL would do next regarding other third party businesses. I definitely think that the online shopping sites and Snapzilla are all vulnerable to whatever this "publish to web feature" ultimately will be used for, along with upcoming improvements to find. The allure of being able to buy directly through the browser, perhaps even buy L$ at the same time, and have it instantly delivered, all in world, all integrated without the current kludges of intermediate accounts and key verification is pretty compelling. I can't see LL passing up an integrated shopping system long term. Snapzilla is vulnerable too, depending on what the publish feature is going to mean, but I will deal with whatever comes to pass and just continue to broaden the features to compete. I imagine the shopping sites will follow the same strategy. While integrated currency has not seemed to have affected IGE one iota, I am not sure if third party shopping sites could compete well against an integrated one. Time will tell. LL has given no indication they are pursuing this, it just seems to be a logical step for those watching what LL has been doing. Before I started developing Snapzilla, I had a conversation with Phillip in late 2004 regarding entering the third party shopping market, which is my RL expertise. In the course of that conversation, I mentioned that two things that would really help third party sites would be the ability to securely make L$ payments to third party sites through LL (kind of the way you do with Paypal to pay another site), and also a secure delivery system. Contrast this with the current system that requires a third party site to develop allt the communication logic, and for customers to pay into an arbitrary account to have money to spend on these sites. Also, the payment and delivery mechanisms rely on an unstable XML-RPC/email system. So far, a year later, no progress seems to have been made. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it doesn't bode well for third party sites.
