If you combine the following factors:

* I am still using my 512 m2 of First Land;
* I have some really ugly advertising near me that annoys me every time I fly around;
* I don't see why I should have to buy new land just to get away from intrusive adverts;
* I'm a difficult sort of person who has been labelled "oppositional defiant" in the past (response: "no I'm not";)

you get my good self thinking about starting a campaign against them. I don't know if it's specifically a First Land problem but from what I've read it does seem to be more prevelant there, with people leaving their First Land behind quickly and selling it on to those Evil Land Barons, may they burn in everlasting bluescreen hell gah gah. As well as that, it does strike me that new people might actually find getting involved in a group quite interesting and stop them from giving up on SL as a place where all there is to do is sit on poseballs and buy shoes, an issue that has come up here recently.

I was thinking of a boycott campaign. Are there any existing groups specifically based around this issue? (I'd bet that I'm not the first person to have thought of it, and while I don't mind doing something that somebody else has done, I don't want to be cliched.) Any opinions?

I've been land shopping lately and found that someone is buying tiny 16sqm plots of land right beside all the good plots, setting up the ol' Impeach Bush signs, and usually selling the lots for 100k.

Often these plots are inbetween two plots that could otherwise be bought and joined into something nice.

Every place I found appealing to buy land, I found these signs and overpriced plots.

Thus....

/sign me up.

I think people should only be able to own a limited amount of plots that are smaller than 512sqm. End of line. Doesn't hurt resellers, but keeps 9.95 tier accounts with 64 16-square-metre plots (remember, you get 512 sqm at no extra cost) from stuffing their ugly feet into all the doorways. -_-

There's definitely going to be a big section about Impeach Bush signs.

This is a big problem. My suggestion

1. Abuse report every sign you see
2. Educate other people on how to abuse report signs that they see if it pisses them off
3. Write to philip@lindenlab.com and complain about this problem.

What we need to find out is who is SELLING those 16m plots.

Why is anyone selling them cheap if they know the buyer is going to get 100k for them?

Most of those plots are sold in areas in wich people looking for little extra primage may be useful or for advertisers.

I think that's the real problem, though. These are being sold at relatively high prices because the sellers know that griefers will buy them.

And... advertisers? So you wouldn't want to be in the shadow of Impeach Bush (and I don't blame you for that), but it's fine to be near anyone else's adcubes and hoardings that might be just as ugly?

lol! No one is paying 100k for a 16m plot. Thats almost $400 USD! I assume "100k" is just a synonym (spelling?) for "way too much". :D

Right this works well.
I have also found that you can hide other crap builds by bringing up land... trees but in this case it's in the air so make a big ol wall trans on one side.

I occasionally buy up and subdivide plots, put them up for sale, and offer bulk discounts if they wish to buy more property. I charge no more then L$500 per 64m2 and depends on the location for my prices. I put outragous prices (like L$2000+ pricetags) on the parcels to avoid griefers from purchasing them or forcing them on the recieving end of their extortion practices if they really want them that badly. In the land description and any "For Sale" sign I put up has floating text that tells people to IM me to purchase at the true prices I'm selling them at and that I do offer bulk deals. All this to avoid more impeach bush signs from poping up (he seems to be in the habit of max profit, ie buy the cheapest land posible).

Most of my customers believe it or not are the local residents and businesses looking for a few extra prims they need for their build. Occasionally I get an Advert or that movie scam that pops up every once in a while, but hey its not my business to ask what they plan on using the land for.

Actually... I think there may be one running for 100k. I mean the 64m2 plots he owns by my home/business run for 40k a piece. And sadly there are people with money to blow that are willing to pay these outragous fees to be rid of them, but its the little guy without this kind of cash that suffers the most.

I'd hazard a guess that doing this has the reverse effect. Instead of preventing griefers buying the land for extortion, it has the effect of making the land only worth it if it's going to be used for even worse extortion than the original prices.

Shame we couldn't get the texture's uuid... then we could add a line to our INI file to override this and replace it with a full alpha texture. :(

Dunno if that's really possible, but it would be nice.

Either that or right click a plot and hit the "render" toggle.. whichever the Lindens are less lazy to implement is fine with me.

Hmm... interesting idea. I'll have to look at the LSL Wikki and talk to a few scripter friends later today when I get out of work. There may be something out there that can be done to do this if so we can distrubute a patch. Either that or spend some time digging through my cache looking for the textures.

Impeach Bush - Newbee's impression
12-07-2005 22:08
I'm a relatively new user in Sl, less than two months.

At first I just went in for the free ride to see what it was all about. I got real excited and spent $20 for 5000 lindens. Then I decided I would buy some first land but then... I started to become aware of the impeach bush signs. So I've decided not to buy since I want to enjoy SL and not become a victim of this stuff.

It is amazing how this is the most common sight in SL. It's almost becoming it's symbol. No idea what it's all about since the price of the land involved is too high for anyone to actually consider buying it. I think it's really weird that Linden Labs has decided this is ok - there's something weird there.

Anyway that's my SL story
