A couple of weeks ago I bought land at the edge of Pyong Ya sim and another sim and opened a small shoe shop which has been going well.
But today the partner of the owner of the sim next to mine, who is the owner of the whole sim, and who rents it out, rezzed a giant floppy penis at the bottom of a small cliff at the edge of our sims, beneath my shop.
I asked the owner of the sim if he was going to leave it there, and I asked politely. However, he responded by taunting me, calling me a slut and a whore (because I have been an escort, and still carry the group tag of the club where I once worked.) He and his partner than came onto my land and into my building and started abusing me through chat. His partner also began flying around and pushing me. I banned them and muted him.
When they were outside the male started shooting at me with a scripted weapon, but since I was behind a window it had no effect.
He then opened the chat IM channel for 'blue team' (a combat group which I am also a member of) and began telling people over that channel that he knew someone by my name who was willing to perform sexual services. When I responded via the same channel he then answered as if he didn't know me, but told me that he would speak to me in IM. I persisted in asking him why he was terrorising me over the 'blue team' channel, and he then closed the channel and refused to speak into it again.
However, the attack did not stop. He first began by rezzing objects with penis shapes upon them at the edge of our land, and raising them to a height where they would be seen by any customers who came to my shop. I set the land autro return to 0 so that he wouldn't be able to rez anything on my land. But he and his partner then proceeded to rez giant floppy penises on their land and move them across onto my land, so that they would not autoreturn. They also called upon a friend to teleport in and watch the 'fun'.
I called upon live help, and was answered by Kenny Linden, but he disappeared before I could get an answer to my question whether it was possible to have people come and monitor such abuse. I also filed three abuse reports during the time all these attacks had taken place.
However, this 'resident' owns a whole sim that is up for rent, and in his classified ad claims that he has 40,000m2 still for rental. He has also been a resident since November 2005. His partner has been a resident since June this year.
I only own a small 1024m2 patch of land. I'm guessing I shouldn't expect LLs to do anything about the report.
Should I move my store? The land I had here was quite nice, but if they are going to grief my customers (or me while my customers are around) what else is there I can do? It would seem a pity to move my store when it already feels that I have settled.
Anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice?
Edit: Also, I should point out that before this event I tried to befriend the sim owner I speak about above, since I have had no problems with another neighbour and thought that I might also be able to make friends with this one. I spoke to him a couple of times, and he didn't seem to have any problems with me, he even asked me to rent land from him in his sim.

That is very immature of them, I hope a Linden fixes things for you.

Thanks for the reply Jonas. For some reason I always think that autoreturn is 0, even though it says right next to it that it is 'off'! Floyd; I hope the Lindens do, but I am not confident considering the amount of land he seems to own. Does anyone know how Linden goes about dealing with abuse reports? Do they give a warning to the abusive party first (i.e. "you have been reported for such and such an offence, we will be watching for similar reports in the future" or do they just wait until the person has so many reports they can't ignore the problem anymore?

My friend got banned for grieifing, he wasnt warned or anything until one day a Linden contacted him telling him that he had 3 prooven grieffing offences, and that his next offense would lead to being banned.
He got banned, >_<, it prooves one thing though, griefers cant change, the guy will get banned for it eventually if that is his nature.

He might get banned if he terrorises me anymore and I keep reporting him. But will LL ban someone if only one person keeps reporting them?
I'd still be interested in hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation, and what they did about it.
I'd hate to have to move my shop just because of this (the landmark is already being handed out to people by satisfied customers.)

Worst comes to worst they usually get tired of it if you don't respond (keep aring just don't say anything to them). Set a low (1 minute or so) autoreturn and restrict push..

There's no reason to deal with this sort of crap when a few bucks will get you out of it. I'm sorry that this guy has his head up his ass, not everyone in SL is like this.

thanks Jonas,
that's good advice to anyone suffering from griefing. In fact, that is what I did. Just stared at them from the window (while I was busy editing posters in GIMP), put them on mute, banned them, and put the autoreturn on (or at least, I thought I had.)
However, I'm more worried about them attacking when there are customers at my store. Guess we'll just have to see. They didn't attack my friend when I called him in as a witness, so maybe everything will be fine.
In fact, 20 mins ago he was back on his land building while I was out on the balcony, and he didn't bother me at all.
I guess it will be fine, just a bit of a shock. Griefing seems a lot more serious when you own land than when you're playing about in Clubside's Sandbox.

Griefers can be any age and they really aren't too hard to take care of if you are on your own land.
Most of them will disappear in September..I wonder why?

I thought she meant that they would have to go to bed early because school term starts.
Not sure that would help in my case though; I doubt many children would own a whole sim and have it up for rent.
Edit: heheh, I see the source of your confusion now: they can be any age, but they are meant to be schoolchildren.

Maybe he wanted your land wich is why he terrorised you. It wouldn't be the first time someone griefed their neighbor to expand their teritory within a sim. A while back when I first started posting on these forums I heard a story about how one guy would grief his neighbors with physics weapons from his land. His whole purpose was to force his neighbors to move and to prevent prospective buyers from moving in to force his neighbors to sell to him dirt cheap. Many abuse reports were supposidely filed against him and nothing was done because he was paying a decent about of tier (at the time I was told of this story he owned close to half the sim at the time). He countinued doing it until he aquired roughly 3/4's of the sim, the rest was abandoned to Gov Linden to spite him. I dunno how true the story is, but I know there are people willing to goto such lengths to get what they want.

It does not matter if one complaint is filed by a single resident or 100 complaints by multiple residents are filed nor does it matter how much land they own... if a person is confirmed as a griefer or is harrasing you the lindens will either suspend and or perma ban the account.
I had a friend who one day decided to go from a good account holder to a griefer A** he was suspended for 14 days... upon trying to return after the 14 days the lindens sent him another e-mail stating due to the gravity of the harassment his account was permanently closed and all posessions including land was lost. This really sucked for him because he had a very profitable store and over 100k linden in his account as well as almost 20k meters of land.
Dont move thats just what they want you to do... as far as customers... as long as the offensive objects are not on your land most will do as I do and laugh at the maturity level of some of our residents and keep shopping.

Quite possible he's acting this way so you'd leave the place and set your land to sell? I heard this was a common land owner who wants to expand tactic.
I went there and checked the area, the land is being auctioned by this dude. His and his partners profiles look very immature and definitly like those of a griefer. Also I'm not sure if that would run through the PG filter.

Hi,
a few people have pointed out that the characters in question might have been attacking me because he wanted my land. I can't say that this is not the case for certain but there are some things which make me think this is not the case:
1. Half of my land was still for sale less than 2 weeks ago, when I bought it to expand my shop from the first land I was lucky to get in Pyong Ya.
2. There are still patches of land on the border of Pyong Ya and his sim for sale, and he has not bought these in order to expand.
Also, the attack only occurred after I asked them if they were going to remove a giant penis that had rezzed beneath my store. (I didn't even ask them to move it, I just asked if they were going to leave it there.) Admittedly I don't know why they decided to rez it there, but they were both still there at the time, and looking at it.
Anyway, they have moved their penis shaped things for now, and seem to be leaving me alone. I'm guessing that they are just immature (reading their profiles would seem to suggest so) and aren't able to respond decently to a question.

Yiffle Yaffle:
ironic it is, that Anshe Chung has just bought the whole sim off the neighbour who was griefing me!
I am glad that the neighbour and his partner have gone. I will make it clear that by filing abuse reports I did not want him or his partner to be permabanned; I just wanted them to be warned so that they would leave me alone. I knew from his first respone to my question whether he was going to leave the giant penis that he was not going to be reasonable. Anyway, now he's gone it's unlikely that I will see much of him again.
As for Anshe, I don't know what damage she is supposed to have done, but she will get the same chance as I give to all my neighbours (and the same to anyone who leases land from her.) If they treat me with respect and are reasonable then there will be no problems.

yes, you are right, she probably will.
For some reason I suspected she was buying to rent out the land rather than sell it. Don't know what made me think that though.

My partner and I just bought a quarter of a mainland sim from her and also live on one of her private themed sims. Despite whatever experiences others might have had with her or her staff, we have had no problems what so ever. We have found the prices reasonable and the deed restrictions for the themed sim were fair. I have had multiple members of her staff over to our home to verify that we were within "building codes" for that sim. All of our friends who live in Dreamland also have had the same positive experiences.
I can only assume that if someone has had a negative experience, then [1] they failed to pay tier on time (and you'll find Linden isn't forgiving about that either) or [2] they violated the rules of the sim.
If i'm mistaken and their personal negative experience is not one of those, I appologize. I just don't like seeing someone put down for being a successful businesswoman. For each and every negative story said about her, i believe that you will will find several positive stories from those of us who live on her lands, unspoken.
