Is the gray blur and not going all the way to the ground the sum of the so-called beacon enhancement?

Just what I needed to see, more gray.

Is there some good change in the beacon that I am missing?

I noticed.
Not only is it almost invisible and thus hard to spot, it also stops above the Z coordinates of the target, which is suffice to say annoying for those higher up items.
Basically we're doomed to navigate on the little red arrow :-)

The new beacon is harder to see (and is supposed to be red, btw), but it looks nicer to me. I can see the z-coord being the bottom as somewhat useful; it can point to a specific spot in the sky now, not just "somewhere on the pipe".

The 200m default when clicking the map is annoying though. It should be zero. I wonder if they did that to make sure people notice the new stop-at-the-z-coord functionality and it will change to zero later.

But what about this quote from Torley on the official Linden Blog:
"THE BEACON WILL NOW KICK ASS."

Surely there is something we are not checking to the on position?

I do love this imporvement:
Automatic Edit Camera Movement preference is now Off by default
That makes building SOOOO much nicer!

Now if only reset view would get fixed. :)

All in all a good update I think.

Automatic Edit Camera Movement

On a different but related note, why can't we turn off the "turn around when you go into appearance mode" anti-feature?

I am looking at myself from the front 99 percent of the time when I want to go into appearance mode. I decide to go into appearance mode because I was looking at myself from the front, seeing what I look like to others who are facing me, and deciding I need to tweak my figure or outfit. That is not the time to turn the camera around.

I posted about the red marker here.
/142/5e/132959/1.html#post1251910
As you can see it's quite anoying not being able to see the marker. Now you have to find the arrow and drag your camera around to see where its pointing to know where your target is.

I don't think the new marker is supposed to be more visible so much as it's supposed to be more precise (pointing to not only the (x, y) coords of a spot but the z coord as well).

Has anyone checked out the "Cheesy Beacon" option under the new "Client" pulldown in 1.12.0? Its in the Rendering submenu.

Hmm when i invoke the appearance mode the avatar simply does the 180 degrees rotation and the camera snaps to position in front of the AV and looking at my 'front' ... no matter if i was looking at myself from front or from back.

The only times it doesn't do it is when sim is lagged and my AV doesn't actually do the turn-around bit (or the Appearance mode opens before the turn is exectured) ... while camera expects her to, so it winds up looking from wrong angle.

The new beacon is a direct result of a typo on a memo.

Looking at the beacon makes it obvious someone said "The client needs a new map and location bacon".

So now the beacon is tastier, but is far higher in fat and cholesterol.

Um... Look under Edit->Preferences->Input & Camera.
You'll find options to stop edit camera and appearance camera movemement.

.
I don't want it to move at all. The precise nature of how it moves is not relevant. The camera should not budge a millimeter when I enter appearance mode.

Just to be sure, I just positioned the camera in front of me, focused on my foot, zoomed in a bit, and entered appearance mode. The avatar did the 180, the camera changed it's focus position, causing the view to be from behind my feet looking up at my back.

So both the camera and the avatar move. I want neither to move. I don't want the avatar's posture to change, or the camera to move.

I hadn't seen the cheesy beacon option in the Client Rendering menu yet. It makes the sky have a red moving dome appear and causes white blobs to slid up the red and gray beacon. It's stupid beyond comprehension. They need to get the drunken retarded lobotomized blind monkeys on drugs off the interface design team.

Also, if you move the appearance dialog box across the screen so that it covers your av in the process, the camera is moved. Sheesh.

Not to damage my reputation as the guy who hates everything, but I actually kind of like the new look for the location thingie.

I guess now I'll have to be the guy who dislikes almost everything instead. ;)

The Cheesy Beacon when enabled looks much better then the one i originally posted above. I duno why it's not default. As you could see the first picture i posted in this topic had a really hard to find beacon.

EDIT: Even though i like it, i believe the beacon its self should start off at ground level. I attempted using it on a alt of mine to track them and it started at their position and went up. If they were 4000 meters up i would not even see them unless i looked in that direction lol.

I like the fact that they're indicating the z-coord of the spot to be located. :)

One could display the Z coordinate without putting a gray blur around the red beacon.
