In another thread someone asked if LL's vision has changed, IMO no, the vision hasn't changed, they lied to us all along. It is pretty obvious that LL is taking the steps necessary to sell the company. First amid overwhelming opposition from the community LL goes ahead with the teen grid. Then when that flops, no verification to allow teenagers to artificially pump up their resident count and still somehow call SL an adult only metaverse. This is NOT GOOD for SL. It IS GOOD for a company that wants ot artificially balloon their in-world numbers and make it "look" like they are more of a success than they are. Now they close the forums cutting off the community from each other as well as from LL. They do not want us talking to each other, or to them anymore. Sadly the metaverse sounded idealistic but in the end it is all about the money with Phillip and LL. We read you loud and clear Phillip. You don't give a rats ass about this community, it is all about the greenback now. I can't fathom another good reason to do what you have done. Preparing LL to market and sell is the only thing that makes sense. I am really pissed off right now. There are many of us who have enthusiastically endorsed and supported LL all the way in-world and in these forums to make it a better place. LL shows their true colors and gives us all a big ole FARK YOU and closes the forums. Farking LL, really nice way to support all of us who have actively worked to make SL a better place. This seriously makes me want to say screw you to LL and go play WoW. Metaverse indeed... what a farking crock of shit!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Oh, I most certainly do NOT forget that Vol, I and others have been here a very long time though and heard many promises from LL and Phillip... which I conclude to all be lies at this point. I have NO issue whatsoever with LL doing as they please, I DO have issue with them flat out lying to the community and so should you. Give it a couple of years instead of a month there Vol and you will know why we are upset with the actions of LL.

You're right, V - it's a business. However, the problem is two-fold: (1) LL had only the vaguest notion that both the business and the product involved building, servicing, and supporting a massive, diverse human community, and made the mistake of trying to apply near-pure technical solutions to complex commercial, political, social, and artistic wetware issues. Effectively it was a hands-off approach - an extreme that has now being replaced by an extreme opposite approach. Extreme reactions are a telltale - it's not working. (2) LL takes a short-term view of business akin to many American companies - six to eighteen months and only a few starry-eyed platitudes beyond that. That might service a hard product and a technical infrastructure, but it does not do well in the sort of sloppy, community-based product LL is trying to sell. But then, what do I know? I'm just a toon who likes to watch.

Lewis The town halls will probably stop happening too. I found them worthless myself. They were usually at a time when I couldn't get to them. The few I managed to attend were so laggy that I couldn't hope to participate. And from what I have read in transcripts of other town hall gatherings, they just don't listen anyway. Why bother? If they think in-world town hall meetings are going to suffice for feedback, I'd sure like to know how they intend ot get more than 40 people out of the hundreds of thousands in SL to be able to attend in a meaningful manner... They'd do better with their Blogs.

I'm not saying I agree with LL...i'm just saying I would rather be under LL than EA. Perhaps EA has the resources to actually spend a dime and fix all of the massive in-world issues that LL continues to put a Band-Aid on and ignore. LL has shown time and time again that they care more about artificially inflating their numbers as opposed to actually fixing SL. I welcome the sale at this point, maybe... just maybe EA won't farking lie to us repeatedly. At this point I'd have to say anyone but LL would be better for us.

Oh yeah...the giant EA has TONS of money to fix it all...but they didn't...which is why TSO is the wreck that it is now. I remember waiting MONTHS for an update when I played, and even then they would still be buggy. Again, i'm not saying I agree with LL or EA...I just think LL is the better of the two evils. I would welcome a sale too...so long as it isn't to EA.

Let's just hope it isn't Fox who buys out SL, then CNN, CBS will be doing special reports of the dangers of SL.

I have posted in these forums about taking over SL as a ruse and a joke. I guess my way of saying over a year ago that I felt the vision had changed and SL would start spinning out of control.
There are some die hard fans who are holding on with a deathgrip and will flame you for speaking otherwise. They have their heart and soul invested in here--- time, energy, money, friends, love.. . their lists for this metaverse maintaining goes on and on. Their hopes and dreams in the Lindens doing all the rights things will not sway because their life depends on it.
Then there are fans who can take it or leave it. Who can move from various on-line games/metaverse in a blink of an eye. The ones that have seen games come and go. Because they too were die hard fans of one that failed because the company lost its vision and let their playerbase down.
As many have stated and constantly remind us of ---We dont own the companys, and the Lindens can do what they want. Its their company, their forums, their TOS. They can do what they want. Very true. Just like we can spend our money else where if we choose to do so. I for one and many others are doing just that.
At some point SL will be the topic of conversation in the same context as conversations about TSO and There. "Do you remember that ole SecondLife? It was really cool at one time. . . ."

How in fucking hell are we suposed to know whats going on if theres no forums? No announcements? THis is the fucking stupidist idiotic thing Ll has ever done. If i still had any respect for them i would lose it right now. If i had the programming knowledge to create my OWN SL alternative i would do it. But sadly i have to leave and go back to EQ or something... This just fucking sucks.

S... S... Sell?
08-10-2006 17:55
But... But why? Why sell the company? The lindens were always there for us... They made SL good for us when it was bad... And now... They're leaving us? But... why?
Who cares about the money? 500,000 people play Second Life only because the Lindens made it! If they leave... Second Life, well, isn't Second Life anymore... It's just any ordanary game...
Linden Lab... Listen to me... Do you really want to dissapoint 500 htousand people that have always looked up to you and played Second Life because YOU are the ones that made it good? Do you really want to leave us all... Just for money? Why would you do that?
I... I wanted to work with you guys every since I started Second Life... You guys are the only ones that made... And will continue to make Second Life... The best game i've ever played... If you leave... I'll stop... We'll all stop... Second Life will be in ruins... All because you wanted to make some money...
I'm dissapointed in you guys, Linden Lab.
I really am.

From: Billy Grace You don't give a rats ass about this community, it is all about the greenback now. Business has always been "all about the greenback". Don't know why this is a surprise to you. LL is not a non-for-profit or charity. They WANT to make money. Why does this still surprise people?

it doesnt surprise me that companies want to make profit, thats their sole purpose, but what bugs me is when quality drop down so they can make more profit while still charging the same amount (see, more) for a lower quality service (i could give you plenty of exemple there but im sure you can think them up on your own).

LL is not a non-for-profit or charity. They WANT to make money. Why does this still surprise people? Yes it still suprises me that to make the "greenback" a service/entertainment industry is still not clear on how to make and keep a happy customer that provides "greenbacks" every week, every month, every year. LL has a long history of making promises they are not willing to keep, such as in the recent down time etc etc etc...Which in my oppinion is the entire reason for the forum closure, to shut up the mass of unsatisfied people that have a place to vent. I think LL feels if you cant see it, it must not exsist.

Customers in this game or platform whatever to us it's a game, to them it's a platform....well customers spend alot of money! Islands, not cheap, montly payment for owning sims and islands, not cheap, all the money made from others buying lindens...virtual money...how much per day? Then again I don't know the expenses that deduct from owning such a platform. Then on top of that people who don't own land but pay 9.95 a month...sure you have those that dont pay but eventually they break down and do pay the monthly fee. There's only a small minority that have played this game for over 6 months that don't and never will pay 9.95 a month..right?

I've read some posts/rumors of Sony Online working on a real world economy MMO. Well, I think it's been known for some time but I don't know anymore details about it. There was mention of it announced at AGC (Austin Game Conference?) last year or something like that. Likely competitor or is Sony the possible buyer?
