I have just a general problem... LL now has it so that when u create an account all u have to do is put in a birthday.. to be able to get on the adult grid... teenagers arent stupid... but all i know is u need to change the way that people sign up for basic accounts or shortly u will all be sue'd for having teenagers see some of the stuff that adults do on main grid... honestly i think that it is a joke... i have recently run into about 50 kids on the adult grid... this is not a place for children to be... so in all honesty i suggest something get changed and changed fast.. or there will no longer be a teen grid and u will have a bunch of sicko freaks going after these children that decide they need to be on the adult grid..

Man, that's a lot of "u"'s
Not to gainsay or agree with anything the poster said, but does anyone know if "netspeak" results in more rapid failures of the keys "u", ".", and "o", "m", or "g"? |

Even on IRC, I hated people abbreviating you. The only pass I give these days is cell phone chatting, since you pay per character. But if even the people using u's think there are too many teens coming onto the main grid, it's definitely going to be a big headache for all of us.

Not to mention a rise in griefing and whatnot...
I must admit though, I am a frequent abuser of the (...) To me, it is more of a stream of consciousness thing though... I just type that to kind of tie everything I say together. The only thing that makes me angrier than using abbreviations for everything is people that do not use homonyms correctly.... For example, I cannot stand when too/to/two gets abused or There They're or Their especially You're/Your... arrrrghhh I feel better now!! |

Please stop before I lose my mind.... ah, too late. |

hehe thats like those of us who use 'GOTO' instead of 'GO TO'. Years of using Commodore 64 or Q-BASIC tends to cause this. ![]() Nah, it's what I call the contagious nature of internet illiteracy, heh. I've seen it's deadly consequences, people who are normally literate, intelligent folks pulling out the "noone" on me! It isn't people who used Q-BASIC that's for sure, most are too young to even know what that is! I'm as guilty as anyone when it comes to writing short and less than eloquent sentances when posting online, god knows. I can forgive quickly typing "their" instead of "there", it's a brain fart and a spellchecker (or however you spell it!) won't catch it, I've done it a million times. I'm not a grammar nazi, in fact, it was one of my worst subjects in school and I can't spell for shit. But "noone" drives me mad because people think it's correct. I'm afraid that the language will be altered to conform to it, and soon "u r teh suxors" will be standard english. But by then it won't matter, Mandarin will be the second language of the world, anyway. ![]() |

Two words - 'A lot'. 'Thank you'. And apostrophe abuse makes a little part deep inside me cringe.
Went to a college art exhibition today and it was saddening how many spelling mistakes there were; f'rinstane, "To many" of something. Ack. The best one was some text about how "every day 10000 hectors of forest are cut down". Poor Hector. |

Capitalizing the first word of sentence, punctuating the end of sentence, and using paragraphs makes a world of difference. And there's no excuse for not doing these three simple things.

I worry less about the teens getting on the adult grid than I do about the whole atmosphere of laxity leading to predatory adults getting their nerve up to go into the teen grid.

Big League Chew is still around. I see it everywhere. It is still in the trusty foil pouch, and the flavor still goes away after 30 seconds.
I worry about Second Life now, there are going to be a bunch of people in the game begging for free stuff because they haven't any lindens and can't/won't learn to do anything productive to keep the community growing. I shudder to think what it is going to be like soon when the free anonymous accounts become large in number. |

Typos... guilty guilty guilty.
Excessive ...'s ? ... um ... *blush* can't help it. Smilies too. I even *sigh* in real life... and get called on it regularly. Bizarre contractions? I wouldn't've mentioned them but I'd've been wrong to leave them out. I should mention some other guilts. But that's prolly enough. But netspeak? Only when being *very* sarcastic. ![]() |
