Another fine example of why this is a good move. If there are concerns that LL might squelch communications it doesn't like, it's best that they occur in a venue NOT controlled by them, where they can't do that.

I replied to this post earlier, but apparently didn't hit the right magic button because the post has vanished into the ether!

We have tried to never censor people's ideas, although we have edited posts for personal attacks or extreme vulgarity. Similarly, we don't plan to censor people's comments just because we're unhappy or upset by what they have to say.

If you make a comment and it doesn't appear immediately it's just because we haven't emptied the queue. Torley and I will make sure the queue doesn't get quite so long (over 80 comments!) again.

:)

Thank you, Robin. I'm afraid we're all more than a little bit on edge over this decision.

I'd like to have a constructive, positive dialog between Lindens and the people who live in SL. I don't see how moving Linden comments to a seperate set of Blogs and eliminating most of the forums, without providing any authorized replacement for communicating with the Lindens, is at all helping matters.

Tell me, Robin, will any of the Lindens be reading and posting to SL Universe and Second Citizen's forums or a regular basis, or whatever else crops up out of user desperation now that the official forums are going away? Or will the Lindens just ignore what is said in those forums?

Ceera, if you'd like to have a dialog with Lindens then please feel free to comment on the blog posts, or IM me in Second Life.

Alternatively you can join the community roundtable. We have a mailing list you can join, and we meet monthly on the first Thursday of the month in Second Life, usually at the Pooley Stage.

And you can always just send me an email at robin@lindenlab.com. I hope to hear from you!

Guess that would be a "no"?

Just to clear up something. That was the first time i posted in a blog before so the comment titled "What about the scripting library" was me. :)

There was a post or posts, not sure if it was Torley, Kelly, or Robin or even all of them where it was explicitly said that they have been getting lots of comments and information from outside the forum. IIRC the statement sounded like they're getting more from outside the forum than they are from this forum.

In effect, the real answer is yes, and it's a question that had been answered before it was asked.

They may not be posting, but they're reading.

Thank you Robin. I have been commenting on the Blog posts, and will continue to attempt to do so. Unfortunately, I fear any useful discussion there is being drowned out in the flood of other comments and due to the poor organizational structure of the blogs in general.

I assure you that you will hear from me by IM or e-mail, if nothing else. Perhaps if an e-mail to you raises sufficent need for other feedback, you can use that as starting material to initiate a Blog post on the topic, since it is impossible for a concerned SL resident to create new Blog topics or to bring up new topics and concerns without hijacking other blog thread discussions? That, in fact, is one of my chief complaints about the Lindens moving to Blogs. They are fine for YOU to present topics that YOU want people to hear. They are acceptable for limited replies from concerned individuals, and rapidly become useless as the volume of blog posts and replies increases. But they are impossible to use by Residents who want to present a NEW topic for discussion. Blogs are best used as a one-way communication, not for meaningful dialog.

Unfortunately I can not participate in your monthly Community Roundtable discussions, or in most other massive meetings that take place in Second Life. I access SL on a Mac Mini, and the lag at a mass gathering is so bad I can't hope to keep up with a reasonable conversation, or to see what is going on. I have tried before, and until I get a much better computer than what I have now, it's simply impossible for me. I would, if I could, But it will be quite some time yet before I can afford to buy a better computer. (The Mac Mini can't be upgraded.)

(Also, even if I did have the needed hardware to attend that round table meeting, that particular date is impossible for me. It happens to be the one day each month that I can usually count on experienging extended time with my SL Companion. Given a choice between attending a laggy meeting, or experiencing fun activities with my mate, my Companion wins, every time. :D )

Someone could always start a service where the replies not allowed in the blog can be placed on a billboard or in a data base so everyone can access them....lol...gotta love the god complex....
