And then we could visit there, buy up plots, meet up with people from our neck of the woods, etc.

Kind of like this:

Of course, to the first person who suggests I or someone outside of Linden Lab should do this, I refer you to this thread:

(and sorry, we're all out of crack)

But...but...but...didn't billy Madison make announcements and stuff about doing this ages ago? His big plans?

Oh no that's right, it was Mr. Blue Sky :)

They'd make great metaverse hubs for people who want to meet up in the RW.

Plus, this is where it's all heading.

If you read about Dubai and the U.A.E. way of doing things it sounds exactly like SL. It's quite funny.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't someone already try that?

I believe the sim was called "The World" or some crazy thing like that.

I think it would take about 16 sims or so do it at a minimum. 25-36 would be better.

Yeah, then we don't need to be told by random Americans to stop "spam chatting" and cut "the Asian crap" when we're talking in our language. ;)

Seriously, I don't like the idea. We'll be packed like sardines in teeny tiny islands in Second Life too. ...But then, it might be an interesting sight :D

heheh.

Well, it'd be cool to look at the sims and immediately kinda see where everybody is from.

Plus I could visit europe on the cheap!

Well, I think the idea would be that you could buy up japan yourself and make it whatever you want it to be.

Yawn. So many other things to do. 2 sims donated made the most excellent rendition of Neverland and Olde London.

Do people really do this?
I have seen some anti-asian stuff on the forums, but I haven't seen it in world.

Not that it's that hard to believe or anything.

The joy of this would be being able to go places, and visit the residents there. Like I would pick out Spain, and be able to go and actually meet people from Spain! In a less random way than I might be able to do now.

It is overly ambitious, of course. But it's still a dang good idea. Just requires some thought in implementation - maybe it could be done.

It isn't just anti-Asian stuff going on. I have a friend who was talking in Spanish with another user at the Welcome Area. After a little while, they were harassed by someone there and told to go back to stop speaking Mexican and go back to picking beans, among other unprintable things. When I found out about it and IMed the person in question, I was also treated to a barrage of racist insults from her - including being told that SL is a game for Americans only and to go take a raft back to whever I came from. I wish it was an isolated incident, but it wasn't - I experienced it several other times myself, in the most random of situations.
