Last week, I could come to the Forums, click New Posts, and follow threads that had cohesive and interesting topics of conversation and see what the popular topics were that day.

For the last couple of days, clicking New Posts give me four pages of things that were posted within the last few hours, and it's mostly a bunch of people decrying the death of the forums :( Shit, any new interesting threads have a nearly 100% chance of scrolling off of page 1 within an hour or less.

While I am also bothered by the forums going away, I gotta say that for the last couple of days they've served no useful purpose whatsoever for me.

Many people have hastened the demise IMO by making the noise so overwhelming and the good information so hard to find that LL might as well kill them all today and not wait at all.

What you see is a comunity having fun, before it's taken away from them. Did you really expect "business as usual"?

Lighten up and try to have some fun with the rest of us.

Hmmm, even thought the forums will live for another month, I'm less interested in something substantive given that the forums are dying.

What you are seeing is withdrawal. These are common symptoms of a condition called "FORUM CLOSING ITIS", or more commonly refered to as "we are all srewed". It starts with an overwhelming response by those residents who may feel most victimized by the situation and who happen to be awake and online as it is announced.

Then follows the fallout with repeat posts worded differently by residents who are hoping that THEIR post will be the one to make LL change their mind.

:)

This thread :/112/6c/129256/1.html
was pretty interesting.

It doesn't get really good until Kendra and Ernie start talking on page three.

Well, it is true that I have found some interesting things to read in the last couple of days, and I did enjoy that thread as well.

And I think I understand *why* everyone is posting so frantically, I just wanted to point out that for noobs like me who are still trying to find the good information about how to do scripting and building, the last few days have been especially difficult.

That said, those of you who are posting links to new Forums on other sites, please continue to do so. And do try to make sure it doesn't get swallowed in the noise please? I'd very much like to still have a place to learn :) [Edit] That is, if there isn't a mass exodus that causes SL to just go away ;)

Then you were not in General/Sandbox. Here is the link to the ones that are not full of trolls:

LL should have just deleted the forums alltogether in one day.

This is like starving someone slowly. Agonizing death.

Exactly. I think the last time Robin moderated a thread, Eggy was in beta. ;)

*sorry Eggy, I just couldn't resist* :)

Well, that was to be expected, huh? Seems like a lot of the interesting threads end up that way.

What's interesting to me is Robin herself closing it. We've seen far worse threads. I was shocked this one closed.

I think the answer to that is the resmods. Normally I think the Lindens pretty much ignored the forums unless the resmods flagged something for their attention (except of course the two Lindens that were “assigned” to them).

But with the announcement of the forums being closed the higher level Lindens have been spending more time monitoring the forums in order to gage the general reaction. (I know I would if I was in their position.) So a thread that the resmods might have just let slide for a while was noticed by Robin, and seeing that it was starting to spiral downward she just nipped in bud, so to speak.

A perfectly understandable action when you remember that most upper level management people prefer to be proactive instead of reactive.

I think the resmods, despite all the grief they got, were a lot more lenient in general about threads than the Lindens would have been.

Just a thought. However it's entirely possible that I could be full of crap too.

Indeed. I am often surprised at how long some of the worse threads can go before getting shut down.
