Massive Lag

The Bad News:
Chart your increasing lag as a function of increases in total membership and a rolling average of total residents inworld at peak demand hours over the past 2 - 3 months.

Then factor in the reality that SL servers rely on some of the busiest, most problemmatic and unstable internet backbone routers in the country (San Francisco).

BTW, the Atlanta backbone servers rock in comparison.

The Good News:
Linden Lab staff can order out from China Town.

Don't think time is as much of a factor as it was. Time here now is 10.30 am, or 2.30 am SL time. STILL massive spikes. Must be related to load and also changes being made, surely?

New players can't be villified though, everyone was new once. I still am, the only reason I wasn't on ages ago were lack of technical resources in my area (i.e. decent ADSL etc and crappy PC).

The video chipset in Sammi's system is an ATI Radeon™ IGP 345M and the drivers are those originally provided by Sony (which are also the latest offered on the Sony website). The ATI website does not appear to offer a working update for this chipset on a Vaio.

We also tried the Omega drivers but she said SL was "all gray" so we reverted to the Sony drivers.

Argh, I really wish laptop chipsets for ATI had more frequent updates. That's one nice thing about nVidia - the unified ForceWare drivers don't make you rely on your laptop's manufacturer remember to update. An email to LL might help with this; they're familiar with a lot more configurations than I, and may be able to recommend a working driver update other than Omega.
