Just curious, how many of you are americans trying to ape japanese and all the pseudo japanese buildings? And what is the purpose really? Is there some sort of mystique attached with being japanese, or its just familiarity with particular cultures. Namely those you've dropped a couple of bombs on before, so you know a little of who or where they are.

From whomever I've met, the real japanese don't even use names like usagi, ranma, musashi for their avatars. Anybody explain where all this apeism comes from?

My appearance is loosely based on Santoka Taneda, a wandering zen monk that lived in Japan after the 2nd world war era. His life makes for a fascinating reading, just google his name.

Most of my builds are traditional japanese inspired with highly detailed structures and textures. Check my pagoda slurl below. Nothing "pseudo" about it, you'll see.

Why?
-Taste, I like the traditional japanese architecture, both in temples and homes. They reflect zen principles, and I'm a zen practitioner.

-Challenge, my buildings are more than simple boxes with pretty prims slapped on them. 2700 prims to make the pagoda just like the original 1300 year old building...

-History, America has none to speak of, architecturally speaking, and Frank Lloyd Wright has been done to death already.

I could have gone the way of the chinese, vietnamese, cambodian, korean architecture, but they have too much details and are too "flashy" for my taste. But I find them equally as fascinating as the japanese.

As for mentioning of the bombs, that event marks one of the lowest point in human history. It's important to study it, why it really happened, remember it, but there is no need to use this unfortunate event to make a point, it just shows arrogance and disrespect from the one who mentions it.

Are you 'fake' Japanese yourself? To add the bombs dropped at the end of the war into your post as a meaningless throw away comment is bit odd to me. I guess the younger generations do not take these things as serious now.

I take things very seriously. I'd prefer to encourage people to face their demons than run and hide behind some censorship hood. Its like those germans who bury their heads underground at any mention of the national socialist party. I'd like to think gassing some of those folks actually did germany some good. But that is a personal unrelated opinion.

I don't find anything wrong with this. Asking why does not make it a problem. But there are some who go to the extent of claiming they are when they aren't. Are there any reason for this? Roleplaying like the goreans?

So there is a problem.

But i have no idea where you're going Cottonteil.

Yeah, Goreans do what they do because they like doing it. If they didn't, they wouldn't... or something

I might be wrong tho... We may never know. O.o

One of the many many great mysteries of Secondlife.

Why do goreans cause lag? are the forums really populated by alts?...

Now log into SL and have fun :P

Reitsuki isn't an arbitrary name as it has meanings in japanese. Based on my limited knowledge, rei means 'law' or 'strive' while tsuki means 'moon'. So it definitely has japanese connotations, even though not many japanese might use the name. And neither is Cottonteil an arbitrary name.

Wrong kanji, actually. My name is written 霊月, and in context it means "soul".

And by arbitrary, I mean it wasn't chosen to imply anything. Its a name I've used online for a while, every since Everquest 1... Its a translation of the name I used in Everquest one, and sounded slightly less stupid as a forum handle. Kojima went better with Reitsuki than anything else I could pick at the time.

If I understand you correctly, you mean to use the bomb on every third world nation? Why? that would be bad for business...

I get you. Its arbitrarily chosen to have no meaning apart from it meaning 'soul'.

Yeah, thought so.

Cottonteil, winning an argument on the internet is like running for first place on the special olympics.

You may win, but you are still a retard.

Your biased comments are nothing than troll crap, and i would like to congratulate you for being the first person ever on my ignore list.

And for that you get a nice hot pipping cup of didly squat.

Enjoy.

Actually, you use smaller bombs for poorer nations. It makes economic sense. Even Jamie might probably agree.

But anyway, nobody really wants to answer the question.

I never denied that the name translated into something. I said it doesn't imply anything.

You are calling people with disabilities useless even if they win something? Thats a great analogy.

I'd rather be disabled and achieved something in paralympics than being just normal and not won anything. I'll be the better fertilizer when I die.

I like cheese because when I put it in my mouth, the aroma rises up into my nasal cavity and it almost gives me an orgasm. Next question.

No, thats describing the process of you enjoying it. The question is, why do you enjoy it?

They are right in saying that this post can be interpreted to be trolling.

If one was just curious this would be a better way of asking the question and achieving the desired results without getting all the flak:

Well, it's clear your post was racist from the start.

Is this some kind of "I'm a Chinese person who hates Japanese and therefore I have to knock people who choose Japanese names?" thread?

I've reported your post. I hope your career in SL is a short one. We don't need racists in our world.

PLEASE try not to attack one another on the forums, and try to be respectful of one another. I'm going to submit this thread for Linden Review, if it gets further off track I'll lock it.

Difference would be, only one of these was methodically planned and executed operation to completely eradicate part of human population picked for their genotype.

If you can't tell difference between a war and genocide, perhaps it's better to educate yourself somewhat before you start another thread like that. Unless it's actually your _intention_ to act like ignorant elephant in porcelain store...

Please guys, the thread begins with the words "just curious"

Though I'm no longer convinced (reference: post quoted by Hiro Pendragon) that pure curiosity was Cottonteil's motivations, no need to make things worse.

I think this is a good time to end the thread because the curiosity was appropriately answered on page 1.
