There is also some very cool products made by Alissa Phaeton available at her shop in Nauru called an Ali-Plat. Similar to Fran's platforms, these are designed for intimacy and will raise to 500 m on command and include pose balls.

There is a very simple solution (in theory anyway) that would address a lot of issues (lag, privacy, online/offline status). The solution is a checkbox in the property settings to hide avatars on property. Essentially from outside the parcel, the avatars on it are not visible, hearable or findable. As soon as you step foot onto the parcel, everyone on it becomes visible. As soon as you leave the parcel you become visible. That's my thought on the matter anyway. Damn me for suggesting more features .

From: Isablan Neva ... Even a skyhouse/skybox does not guarantee you total privacy as there are a few people trolling the skies looking for private spaces to snoop in... I prefer the word "explore."

From: Ewan Took ...also experiment with putting the sky box higher than people can fly and use a simple teleport script to get to it. A litle llApplyImpulse and llSetForce action and that becomes pointless. And there are public skyboxes. I just put one up: an elevated runway for general aviation. The best thing I've thought of to get privacy for a converstion that you want to be *in game* and not in IM is to build an aircraft with a large cabin, multiple seats and free camera, that flies in a high speed high altitude randomized course under an autopilot script. To track it well enough to listen in someone would have to build a physical object or plane that can do the same thing *and* track you at the same time. Since you're both running under LSL using the same sim's processors you're always going to be able to write a script that requires more CPU cycles to track than are available... Haven't implemented it, because I haven't needed privacy that bad, but it's there if you're willing to hack code.

You know. Decorate that plane like it's from the set of an Austin Powers movie and you might have a high demand item.

From: George Flan Not sure if this is the proper forum to address this issue...but here it is. We all know that there is no such thing as total privacy in Second Life. My question is why not? There are a lot of people in sl who for whatever reason likes to think they do have some privacy when they are in a house in sl. Yeah I know it is just an avatar and not the real person, but, it is a very real person on the keyboard controlling the av. Real life attitudes and feelings come into play because they are real life people doing things in sl. My question is: Can there be a program, script, etc..developed that can stop someone from sitting in your house, spying on what your doing, zooming in with a camera to get a close up of who, what and etc...is going on. Again, I realize these are only avatars but I really think privacy in sl is a big issue. Anyones thoughts on this matter and what is the LL policy on making a person's house really private? Sure would be nice to grant users better privacy tools. I suspect it would reduce the number of idiotic instances of people putting in no-warning teleport home scripts in their skyboxen. It makes flying a bit of a pain in the arse. Earlier today, I was having trouble punching through the skybox layer without getting forcibly teleported home. So now there are several planes of mine floating around the grid somewhere because some empty skybox has its phasers set to kick ass.

From: Torley Torgeson Probably this closest thing to "total privacy", apart from IMs, would be to own your very own island, and make it hidden to the general public. Then, you could frolic and do schtuff on it, and noone else could come in. I believe an avatar is a real representation of a real person. Sigh... Unfortunately, the usual answer to issues in SL - throw money at it.

Free teleporters, by the way...

If you're building sky houses, Cubey Terra's free teleporters (buy for L$0 from his store in Abbotts) look good, are easy to set up, and work well. And the control script is open so they're easily customizable.

An even better option for privacy is the teleporter made by Zonax Delorean and available at his Primworx shop in Orwood. I went with this teleporter because you program it with names of "allowed avatars" and it is ony visible and usable by those on the list. It will teleport up to 300m.

Just thinking George, you live near me in Clearwing, the "naturalised" plot with the pool is mine. I live in a skybox, not purely for privacy, but more so I can landscape terrain below to put green spaces into SL. You should give me a shout in world.

I've already added a few options to Cubey's teleporter... which I can easily do because the source code is open. How does it implement the "only visible by those on the list" though? I hope it's not running a sensor.

From: Ewan Took Totally agree. I'm sure there are plenty of offline design and build programs that people can use if they really don't want to see or be seen by anyone. Maybe LL can modify the client to have a special offline mode with no interaction and only builds to people's hard drives There is a local mode built-in already (secondlife.exe -local), problem being you need the server code to run a sim on your local machine wich LL isn't about to hand out. Only way to get this to work is to build an emulator wich unfortunately violates the TOS. Got the Mark II setup for quick access to the games around my club and the Mark III for getting up to my 700m up skybox home/office.

I finally settled on a 30 foot thick concrete bunker buried deep in the ground with every obnoxious security script known! You know what? The peepers are still there. You just can't win.

Susie, I've heard those guys boast that the more security scripts you put up, the harder they work to get in and figure out what you are hiding. So, no you can't win

So, no you can't win Yeah I figured that out a long time ago so now we just go at it and charge admission. I may even put it on the events calendar since everything else seems to be on there.

From: Susie Boffin Yeah I figured that out a long time ago so now we just go at it and charge admission. Now THERE is an interesting concept for privacy/security. Set you land to your group and charge anyone else $500L admission. No ban lines. No hated security scripts.... Anyone who wants in badly enough to pay...well, you just earned a weeks stipend for nothing

Shame my home is located on the same land as my club or I would do this.
