Camping/Money Chairs have rendered SL's "Most Popular" places listing, or any other SL listing based on traffic usage, useles. A quick glance in the most popular places list this morning revealed that the large majority of the locations with the highest traffic had money chairs.
Does anybody find these lists useful anymore?

Not so sure these chairs account FOR the popularity of these places. Likely, in the case of the most popular lists, they are merely adjuncts to a place already popular. I found one of these chairs in a texture store. I was perfectly happy to sit in it. As it turned out, I wasn't in that store shopping for textures long enough to get my $3 x 4 payoff. (I feel I should have gotten $3, but there was a minimum amount of sitting time.) If the larger textures stores where I spend a LOT of time in would install these chairs, I would definitely park my butt in them while I shop. Three dollars is three dollars. And it's not like I'm doing anything else anyway, except standing there. coco

I always wondered what would overthrow Tringo as the biggest dwell draw. For some reason, though, it never ocurred to me that it would be Sitting. Wheeeee!

What I don't get is the fact most stores could make more money off selling stuff than they ever could off dwell. If I happen to be looking for something and checking places around the grid anywhere I land with camping chairs I immediatly leave cause the lag is too bad to shop. So they lost whatever purchase I was going to make that day and any further business with them. Just boggles my mind. Top of the list in popular places is never on my shopping priorities.

I've never even noticed the silly things. If a store is seriously laggy, I'm out of there anyway, no matter what they sell or give away. Maybe that is why I have never seen these things.
I suppose that when in a large store, where one can do all their shopping by running around a remote camera, there is some advantage to parking your Avatar's tail somewhere while you shop. It does seem kind of silly for my avatar to be standing there in the aisle doing nothing while I move a camera all over the place. But that isn't going to make me stay in a store for all that much longer.

I run a casino with a money ball. There are many reasons why I do it. * it gets me on pop. places list. Usually only the PG list tho. * I get "green dots" so people flying by might get curious and go check out the place, maybe even drop a few lindens on some games. * I can tell people who ask me for money where to go without being impolite. * I've grown fond of the campers in my casino and dont want to see them go. Plus, I'm a big fan of money giving mahines. When I was a newb, I used to hang out a lot in taggy's casino in Tan just for the free money machine. It's one way for a person who have yet to learn SL skills to get a few bucks.

Well, look at it this way. I'm going to be in that store ANYWAY, and sometimes for quite a while. So any store putting in one of the chairs is going to be making it that much more enjoyable for me to be there. I can use my added up three dollars to buy one more item. I imagine the same principle applies to lots of places where all you do is basically sit around anyway. coco

Me too - I'm a former Wall Sitter at Taggy's At one time, there was Taggy's - Jack Lambert's little casino, and the Oranous ATM all within quick-fly distance. Ahh, the memories

An intheme way I've come across doing this is at RICX's FINE JEWELRY, where he sets up both camping chairs and "Security Guard" seats! I used to sit at Taggy's too. She's such a pioneer, and a nice person too.
