So now I can't even upload textures; Which kinda puts a cramp on the texture work I'm supposed to be doing for a friend's island.

Anyone else getting this?

When that happens, try moving to a different sim and attempt the upload again. It may not help, but at least it's worth a try.

I just logged out of SL. I came back a few hours later and it started working again, with no more errors.
Weird. _____________________

I get an error of that nature sometimes when I try to send a screenshot with a bug report.

Parse error on rez
08-19-2006 01:02
I have had three individual "parse" errors when trying to rez boxes with scripts in them. Life help was no use. Fortunately had earlier copies of the scripts so was not that hard to redo them. Filled out one report but have not heard anymore about so did not bother with second and third. Hope it stops happening.

I haven't seen that, Fenrir, but there is definitely something up with textures in general.
The well known image cache time error seems to have become far worse in recent times - I'll dare a technical explanation. When time dilation goes below, say, .90 for any length of time this normally corresponds with the image cache time getting really long. Way to see it is turn on stats (view menu, statistics) and then expand the last item shown (named Time, ms). In that is a stat called Image Cache - if the time is anything over say, 1ms the sim is in trouble. So every time someone enters a sim the images cache time spikes as they get textures for everything they could see (and I suspect a bit more, it seems to be unrelated to draw distance but that's just a theory). So normally this settles down, but often it doesn't. With just one person in the sim, the images cache time can be 50ms instead of 1ms, and the time dilation as low as .30 or .10. Utter molasses to move around in. A restart normally seems to flush this problem, but what I've seen is this: the problem has been getting *worse* in the last few weeks. Stable sims with fairly constant textures and visitors that used to rarely need a restart, need a restart almost daily now. Why? I don't know. I suspect there are people 'working on things' under the hood, trying to fix the texture issues quietly. Anyway, what most people think is script lag or object lag usually isn't - take a look at images cache stats and time dilation, and prove it to yourself. Easily 95% of my sim restarts have been due to this one factor alone, and it's all texture related. _____________________

Easily 95% of my sim restarts have been due to this one factor alone, and it's all texture related. This has been happening since the update that included major changes in the way the sims communicate with each other a few months ago, but as you pointed out, it's getting a lot worse. It seems to happen in all sims, regardless of content, but it seems worse as you increase the no. of sims attached to the one under being analysed. As you have pointed out Desmond, there is a pattern of it spiking when people enter the sim, but there is also an element 'ranmdomness'. I have seen the image time spike from 0 to 3000ms instantly, though times of tens or hundreds of ms are more common. I am starting to get complaints about lag in my sims, and all are as a result of this problem. One person started getting a little abusive yesterday, as he felt I wasn't doing anything to address this issue. The fact I am unable to do anything but keep on at LL didn't seem to convince him, and he felt I was lying :/ Posted an SL asnwers post about this yesterday. /139/7f/131018/1.html |

This is just too awful.
1.) Textures can be stolen. 2.) Textures don't load very well. 3.) Textures don't upload anymore. ![]() What's next? _____________________

I was getting major lag in my sim. Textures were slow, scripts were running slower...but weirdly the time dialation looked good. I loggd out then back in again then the time dialation went to 0.02...then i decided to reset my sim. Major improvement, dialation went back to .99. It still occasionally dips up and down but it's alot more stable than before.

Very interesting data, Desmond. I will have to keep my stats page up and see if I can correlate with my own observations.
There was extreme texture loading issues as of yesterday though for sure, as terrain texture rezzing was taking a very long time for my friends. Today, I don't know, as I haven't tried to do anything related to textures yet. _____________________

This isn't textures, but a friend of mine tried to give me a Linden pumpkin tonight, and it said something like, "the asset server can't do this at this time." He put it in a prim and successfully gave it to me that way. (?)

From what i've seen LL keeps patching it to make it last a little longer to postpone the inevitable. I personally think it's on it's last leg. O.o To much stuff to keep up with. _____________________
