I quote "Linden Lab accepts payments through PayPal that are funded from a bank account, Switch or Solo card, or a PayPal balance."
Wrong no they dont take payment from a switch card or a bank account, I have both in my paypal in my account, and it wont take payment from either one.

Every month I have to go through the tedious task of sending money to paypal from my bank account to paypal balance. This is the only way I can pay my fees as a british user. Paypal dont allow the payment of pre-payment agreements through those 2 methods.

Due to a misunderstanding (on my part, I made a mistake I accept that). Thanks to the ridiculous amount of time it takes to transfer money, im about to loose my premium account and my 2048m plot.
Also I have a friend that inhabits my free 512m plot as she is also restricted by the lack of payment options to users outside the usa, and as a consequence she will loose her "home".

I've posted about this before and asked, but so far its got me nowhere. I just get the usual "email billing support" which is pointless I just get a bunch of automated responses that are no help at all.

So currently im just puzzled and worried about what im going to do next. I have the money in my account waiting to be paid, but thanks yet again to lack of payment options theres nothing I can do about it.

Sure I could just pony up when the money is transfered and re-activate my soon to be frozen account. But why should I have to. Every time I come up against a problem its back to billing issues.

Im sick and tired of it, im not getting a credit card so dont even think of suggesting that, i've stated my reasons why in previous posts.

There is a solution to this, linden simply have to realise that there are people outside the usa that want to play second life and dont have a credit card. This continuing hassle is really making me have Second Thoughts about wether its worth my time and effort.

Its not like its difficult to set up alternative payments, plenty of other MMORPGS and other online games manage it quite adequately, and usually have it as an option from the start.

From my understanding Second Life has been around for 3 years now, surely during that time one of the lindens must have thought "wait a minute what about players outside the USA" do they really want to limit the user base that much and loose out on making money.

So far i've spent nearly £100 getting myself established in this game, and its all about to come to nothing. Its becoming really frustrating, and theres only so many phone calls i can make and emails that I can send before I get well and truely sick of it all.

I think I might go back to playing wow if this goes on much longer.
Sure it doesnt have the same level of freedom and ability to do what you want, but at least I can pay for it with no hassle, and when I have a question I get a straight answer from blizzard.

I'm not a premium user yet but will upgrade soon. Am I not right in thinking that fees are taken from your Lindex account and you need to have the cash in the US$ balance of your lindex account to cover them. Therefore, why not convert L$ into US$ to cover the fees while the money is en-route from to your paypal account. Having said that, in the UK we have to endure the slow movement of funds in other areas of live squiz, so if you can allow enough time to pay your electricity and phone bills, why is planning ahead for SL so difficult for you?

Slightly off topic but tenuously related. I used to work for what is now the worlds largest independent credit card company (I'll name no names, but the company name had four letters in it and is based in Wilmington, Delaware, ahem). Take my advice NEVER SETUP ANY REGULAR MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION ON A CREDIT CARD EVER EVER EVER!!!!!

If you decide to cancel your subscription, the credit card company are obliged under Visa and Mastercard regulations to continue to payout. So Linden can, and probably will, continue to take your payments for several months and there's nothing you or the credit card issuer can do to stop them. It's not like a direct debit from a current account (I don't know how bank accounts work in the US, sorry) which can be cancelled at your bank, the credit card company CANNOT CANCEL IT FROM THEIR END. Credit cards are A GUARANTEED METHOD OF PAYMENT!! In otherwords, if you pay by credit card, it's between you and Linden and no one can help you - and we're all familliar by now I think with the likelihood of recieving a response from Linden to any emails. All your credit card issuer can do is wait for the payee to take more funds after you've asked them to cancel the subscription and then treat it as a disputed transaction through Visa and Mastercard regulations. This is not difficult if you have evidence of having told them (the payee, e.g Linden Labs etc) to cancel the subscription at their end, however it is time consuming and annoying.

I assume Amex works the same way, however my company dealt solely with Visa and Mastercard until shortly after I left, when they went on to take over issuing new Amex credit cards.

Take my advice. Use paypal and paypal only.

Also, just to point this out to you my friend. The time delay for payments in the UK (7 days!!!!) is in transferring funds from our accounts to PayPal, not in transferring from PayPal to Linden. This is an issue with the UK banking industry generally, and not anything to do with Linden.

3-5 days ? wow takes me 7-9 how come ?
And to metaforest my switchcard is a maestro card.
I cant for the life of me work out why it wont take payment.

As for pre-pay credit cards, hmm thats not a bad idea never thought of that, thanks for the tip, ill look into it straight away :)

And to seraph, man were you bored lol

I know I'm posting a lot in one go, but that's because I reply to posts as I read them, not when I get to the end of the thread. maybe I should wait and post all in one go. Anywho.....
Paypal do not accept payment on Switch cards from customers with their basic (i.e. free) package. PayPal offer a premium paypal account on which switch, visa delta, maestro and visa payments are accepted. But you have to pay to have that kind of account. In short squiz, there are options open to you but nothing comes for free.

I have a switch debit card with the NATWEST so what makes your debit card so different to mine, cos it wont take payment from mine through paypal, never has. And when I phoned paypal to ask them about this they said they dont offer that service never have.
I'm a premium account holder in the UK and I've never used Paypal.

I use a Visa backed Debit Card. The card is free. It is also a Cashpoint card, a Cheque Guarantee card, and can be used to get Cashback. A Visa Debit Card works in all of the places any Visa card can be used - basically everywhere, including SL.

As an aside, I'd also recommend to anyone that they completely ditch NatWest, LloydsTSB, Barclays, and their ilk - they are bloated, uncompetative, incentive driven, money machines. Instead, check out places like Smile (Co-operative Bank) for a current account, and ING Direct or Birmingham Midshires for savings.

You do need to be comfortable using Internet Banking, however. :)

Solution?
08-26-2006 04:23
I have the same problems over some months now. What I do is buy Linden dollars using Ebay or other direct sellers and change them into real dollars in the SL site. That way I have mostly enough dollars to pay my fee. You can understand this is costing me money all the time but I don't see another solution. Linden Lab is not accepting my credit card nor my paypal account...
