OK, how do I join; I take it membership is by invitation?

Just use Find to look for the group 'Classics'. Membership is open (though evidently it wasn't earlier today).

Sweet! I love to learn more about Latin. It played a major part in my teen to college years. And my dad ... well, he cited lots of Latin words in rituals. I'm a voodoo child. :p

Always thought it was a powerful language. I felt there's a certain mystique about it. :)

I did so enjoy Latin at school. I used to get off the bus home on a Latin schoolday and pop into the local sweetshop to buy a packet of cheese-and-onion crisps, to eat them on the way home while reading up the next week's lesson.

Illud dies erant voluptarius :)

I actually am building my own ancient-Roman themed property in Linda (it's not totally done yet so it's not in the Find yet, but if you teleport to Linda you can fly around and find it pretty easily in the northern half of Linda).

That's quite the place you have there! I covet the particle dish-style oil lamps.

And it's not exactly Neo-Epicurean, but I do have a floating Garden space where you can read exerpts from Lucretius while there!

Well, I think the Epicureans had a big influence on early Humanism, so that's pretty close. :)

I wonder if anyone has made a chiton or a toga...

Not sure if that was snark or genuine appreciate, but I'll assume the latter :). Believe me, writing about languages is my pleasure.

Mine, as well.

English, however, is my passion.

If you are scheduling classes/meetings, please post to the forums (sounds a bit odd in a Latin/Greek thread :D) to let us know when and where. I would love to lurk at this one.

(I have a friend who was a Classics major undergrad--if he comes back in-world, I will certainly tell him about this.)

Neat idea. I've recently read some Greek philosophy in English translation (mostly Stoic, and that includes Latin - Marcus Aurelius). I'm a linguaphile; I love communication. Three years of German in high school, along with 1 year of Russian. I"m a near-fluent speaker of Esperanto (I had no problems at the US congress last year speaking with over 100 people from all over the world). And I"ve recently thought about learning another language, but haven't yet decided which one. I thought about Sanskrit as I have an interest in Indian philosophy. Spanish would be more useful (I live in Arizona) but just doesn't interest me. So, I"m not sure what I'll learn next.

Good luck with this!

In good Roman fashion, when Marcus A. had something important to say, he actually used Greek. Seneca stuck to Latin, though. :)

Thank you. The last time I tried to create the group I didn't really know how busy the forum is. As of yesterday, at least the group will not evaporate. :)

If there is ever enough interest to have events, I will certainly announce them.

I'm not yet sure where this is going to lead.
