Who just got the concierge email from the Lindens? Anybody notice anything strange? Yup, they used the TO: address to load up everybody's email addresses. Privacy anyone?

I just go the email too. Yes and all sim owners emails address are shown. It's not just sim owners, that concierge email has gone to anybody who qualifies for the concierge service (which is owning 1/2 sim or more, I think?). There's an awful lot of email addresses there. _____________________

I'm suprised because they obviously have mailing systems but this looks like it's been sent out by hand, hence all the email addresses being loaded into the TO: box, rather than BCC: - a mistake, but quite a big mistake where privacy is concerned. _____________________

Sadly episodes like this only serve to reinforce my doubts about the technical abilities of most of the Lindens (technical? BCC for crisake!).
Following hot on the heels as it does of the misconfiguration of the 'update notification mail list' which resulted in subscribers being spammed with multiple messages from idiots who should have known better, it simply underlines the complete lack of ability of LL to focus on the simple task of getting things right. Personally I'm not worried about my eMail being publicly displayed to every other owner of over half a sim in SL - but I can fully understand the concern of others involved. Personally I'm wondering what else LL can possibly fcuk up this week... _____________________
All very well for people to have a sig that exhorts you to 'be the change' - I wonder if it's ever occurred to them that they might be something that needs changing...?

when it rains for the lindens, it pours. They should just tell everyone in their office to stop and regroup before they do anything else that is, uh, questionable. _____________________

The damage is done. Once it's out on the web you can never get rid of it. Time for everyone to set thier SL client preferences to an anonymous hotpop or similar forwarding account, and cover your butt.

this happens allllll the time.
Do you know how many bcc'd emails I've gotten that were accidentally cc'd? It's unfortunate when it does, but it's a pretty common occurence. |
