Well, since the forums are closing, I'm interested to see what site people choose to replace this one. I personally prefer SLEX for site loading speed and forum arrangement, how about everyone else?

I don't have a favorite alternate forum. I see a real need for a forum that will replace much of what LL are about to destroy, and I don’t see that happening anywhere yet.
Part of the problem will be that various groups and cliques will invariably inhabit different forums, and they will only represent particular fragments the community - but then how do you make a worthwhile cross section of the community buy into a particular set of forums other than the official ones? I dunno. But if you find one that seems to be doing the job, lemme know? Cuz I’m gonna miss the forums a lot. _____________________

I have been at two places/forums about SL - the last time or months..
The official SL one - FORUM - and I am sure this should stay as it are the official. AL serious companys should have one.. and encourage people to give feedback at it... from us that do that use a lot of time to write our feelings...and time are money.. and the feedback given by us are ”for free” - not the bill consults send out.. ![]() It should be a way for LL to get feedback from us that pay the monthly fees and are regular in SL. And I am sure we still are more ones and the huge companys that are in SL now.. but maybe with few dollars.,. ???? Of corse LL has closer friends (al has) and investors but they should listen to to us to! I am also a member of the Second Citizen -a forum where I feel there are a nice and funny and open people writing,, about diff things... its a non moderad one.... so no one get ... i dont write more about this. .. /Tina _____________________

It's completely rediculis. The forums close and like 50 people open up new forums while we already had like 5 or 6 others. Instead of bringing us closer together it's just driving everyone out in different directions. It's like graduating from high school all over again. Only no reward this time.
Theres no way in hell your gona get EVERYONE to go to the same other forum. And it just makes more work for the readers who have to go to like 50 different forums to know what the hell is going on. _____________________

Second Citizen & SL Universe are clearly the two main alternatives and to judge by the posting dates today, Second Citizen is the most active.
What are the chances of cooperation between the two to give us the unified voice we're losing, or will the ambition of the hosts preclude this ? |

I very much doubt one forum will take the lion's share. Many more forums will pop up (many already are), and everyone will gravitate towards their own personnal preference. |

Alrighty, I now have an account at Second Citizen. I have one at SL Universe too, but their site is almost always broken, and I can never log in (page times out).

The site is almost always broken...what does that mean? Also, try creating a new account at SLU to see if it was something specific to your account - there was another user that had a login problem that was cleared up by reregistering. _____________________

I very much doubt one forum will take the lion's share. Many more forums will pop up (many already are), and everyone will gravitate towards their own personnal preference. I think that is what will happen - people will find their own niche and community. SLU and SC have very different tones and moderation policies. I think the variety is a good thing - yes it does fracture the community, but ultimately some of the larger forum sites will hopefully work together in some way to make it easier to keep track of different sites. Bandwidth is also a consideration - if a large amount of people start posting at a particular site, having a shared or freebie forum hosting account isn't going to cut it. It will be interesting to see what happens ultimately. _____________________

By broken, I mean that most of the time when I visit the site, the front page loads fine, but the forum link times out while trying to load (for example, it's doing this right now). When the forums do load, I'm unable to login, the second page of the login process times out. I know I have an account there, I've posted before, but ever since that one time, SLU's forums have been inaccessible for me. I always assumed it was related to site load.

I hope you do work together Cris, while variety is a good thing, we've always had that, the closing of the LL forums simply means we've lost the centralized voice/community we once had. It's ultimately that which needs replacing, not the alternatives which have always been there to fill the niches. |
