~~~~~ HOW TO GET MONEY ~~~~~
***You don't need a house, own land, or have money to enjoy yourself in Second Life.***
I'm getting a bit dangerously close to you-know-who's blog here but I should say that I believe this statement made in the context of "how to get money" is extremely discouraging, and ideally worth avoiding.
(Note, this doesn't mean I don't believe it's true, it's just that if I ask someone how to get something, and they reply "you don't need it", it tends to me to just sound like they're blocking rather than reassuring.)
...and now we have the new SL denzien, the panhandler.
I hardly ever go to the main grid anymore, due to the lag, and constant griefer attacks, etc. However, in a few visits to Waterhead this last week, I have seen repeated cases of:
People selling freebies of all types
People walking around begging L
Etc.
Also, these new players are telling others, "Oh, just go around asking people for L, thats what I did, and I got like 2500 dollars, etc"
I was at Waterhead at the same time as you last night, and saw exactly what you're speaking about, and can vouch for its truthiness.
What you didn't see, however, is one of the n00bs told another n00b "I'm gonna switch over to my main, the name is '[man would it suck to get a suspension from teh forums the day before they close]'"
He TP's back in on his other acct, and starts begging some more! I told him to ask the first name he was in under, as that guy got a bunch of free stuff and he goes "lol who's that?" I said "I dunno, some dumb n00b beggar":)
So he starts begging and begging and begging some more, gets a couple people to spend half an hour giving him a TON of free stuff (skins, clothes, shapes, weapons, probably some $L) and still has the nerve to ask for more.
Then he leaves, comes back as his alt and starts begging again!
That is, until I laughed at him for wearing very pretty makeup on his male av...then he left pretty quickly :D
I had somebody randomly message me last night and said they "would do anything, anything at all, for just 150-200 lindens." So I replied, "Wow would do anything I want for only 150-200 lindens? Wow, you are cheap. Come build me a water fountain for my garden, and I will give you 300 lindens." They responded calling me something unpleasent. I guess they didn't really mean what they offered.
Chris Rock tells a joke like this ... a hooker approaches him and says "I will do anything you want for three-hundred dollars" to which he replies "Paint my house, bitch!"
:rolleyes:
Old joke, heh. I think it originally goes like this. Chick says she will do anything, as long as it can be described in three words. Answer: "Paint my house." :)
Yeah, the begging has gotten out of hand in some areas. I agree that simply telling them the dollar value of $1000 Lindens can sober them up, especially given the amount of time spent camping or begging. I can understand someone unwilling to spend the amount of time that it takes to learn to create something worth selling, it is an investment of time and effort and even software, and a lot of people DO view this as a game or at least as "leisure time" and don't want a second job. So... spend a few bucks, enjoy your time in SL, instead of sitting in chairs or begging, how is that fun?
