Is someone else providing this kind of neighborhood? I'm going to look at it tonight and check it out.

See, I've been looking for a place that's worth "owning" a little bit of land on since I joined, and it's really depressing... looking at the "first land" and then looking at the sims that used to be "first land". And the ones that were parted out by developers are even less encouraging. And too many "well, time to shift-select all my stuff and move again" messages in the forums.

The 512L$ isn't an issue, that's only about US$2.00... and the house is unlikely to be worth anything: the other couple of Linden promotions I've seen have been pretty marginal.

It doesn't sound like there's any "deed restrictions" on this one, though, and if not this is just a $2 discount on a new premium account.

Ahem. I think my house was worth something. And the others, too. And the items in the choose-an-item premium promotion.

Argent, it is also about giving new residents a positive experience and a good atmosphere. Free land is something many of us would have loved to have when we signed up. It is a great step for LL in the right direction. That just my opinion though

And as the email says they are only available a limited time, maybe they sent new emails after that time to fill up the free leftover plots. It never heards to try.

The way I see it too... is Second Life can be extremely confusing for the new Resident. Some technically-minded brills with a lot of computer background may not have such a qualm, but even I was really puzzled by a lot of things.

This, at least, helps facilitate the process of owning land and moving into a pleasant house in a nice neighborhood. It, at least for now, will help to address the following, among other things:

1. Resis who want to get First Land but are afraid "eyesores" (subjective as that is) will spring up all around them.
   

1. Resis with background in such games as The Sims Online who want some familiarity.
   

1. A macro to automate several steps into one.
   

1. New Resis who want to live amongst likeminded people. While this is no hard social guarantee, it's strong to say that the majority of the people opting for this will have some similar suburban interests.
   

As Frans said, it never hurts to try, and if this initial one goes well, we—like the success of First Land—may very well see more and more available as the world grows. I don't know how scalable it is, but it's a fresh alternative, perhaps as fresh as the grass growing on the lawns, and I'm for that.

One can move out in the future, but this is here now, today, in the present!

IMO, this is one of the best ways for the Lindens to convert Basic Residents to Premium status.

I will be interested to see the results of this, say, a month or two from now. This is likely to have a significant positive impact on the longevity of Second Life.

Now, if we can just get some technical issues addressed...

Ooo I'm very fascinated to hear about more connexions between all of this. It's amazing what improvements in one area can do to better another.

Wednesday morning I upgraded to a premium acct. Wednesday afternoon I received this email. When I tried to choose my house I was taken to an error page saying I was already a premium member...

I tried emailing three different sources at LL, and I called three times within a two day period, keep getting a message system and KEEP leaving a message. I feel I am entitled to this house and land. It was only hours after my upgrade and had I waited just a few hours and that email came to me, I would have my house and land...

I don't understand why NO ONE is replying to my emails or my phone calls. It seems outwardly rude and hurtful.

If my answer is that I am not entitled to this, you would think that they could at least reply or call me back... I feel I am entitled. If I wasn't, the email should have not been sent to me.

Forgive me for whining. I just want this house and land so very badly.

Anybody else have an urge to be the first criminal element in that neighborhood? Stand on the street corner and sell virtual drugs, or open a seedy bar in your house, or organize drag races down the streets, or maybe do some tagging with a spray can?

I think this is a nice program, I hope it works. Besides, it has the Coco Seal of Approval, it can't miss!

Yes I did ...I emailed that addy...billing...support and even called three times on the phone. I received ONE reply from support telling me briefly that it wasn't their department...I have a sick feeling that I'm going to get the same response from the rest...IF they reply at all. I even sent Lauren Linden an IM in SL...sigh.

Well..actually..I was just kidding and don't endorse such griefing behavior. But is so 70's suburbanish.

I think this is a very good program myself. I hope to see more efforts by Linden Labs to bring a better experience to the new player in the future.

hmmm... Well I dropped into Blumfield and saw the for sale signs. I e-mailed surrealty but haven't heard back from them. I IM'ed Lizzie Linden but haven't heard back from her. I just tryed asking Steve Linden about it in the WA but he ignored me. Maybe I'm SOL. Oh, well.

Whatever happens will happen. I'm not going to stalk anyone else. LOL!
