what a neat idea.
My dear cousin, Cutter Rubio, and I have toyed with the idea of a Rubio family reunion, but we tend to get disctracted about 20 seconds after the "hey we should have a family reunion" "yeah, we should" phase.

So far, Armath Severine--my cousin, is the "Coz-in-law" to my partner the lovely Memory Harker and is brother to the delightful Trinity Serpentine who is married to wonderful Nala Galatea. Armath is nephew to the beautiful and clever Madame Maracas who, in turn, would be my aunt. <hugs> and <hugs> and <sob>. (Coz, we miss the heck out of you. Be back soon, love)

I was adopted by Blu who already had kids and mom had already been adopted by Moonie who had other kids...and so on. I just started keeping track. I got the idea after reading another thread about families in Second Life.

Briana Dawson How can you be in Second Life and ask why anyone would create an imaginary anything? Why wear imaginary clothes? Why build imaginary cities? Why be a fox? Why be a Vampire? Because that's what makes the game fun.

Due to a past mishap with a particle accelerator and 3 chained paperclips, I am my own infinitely recursive family tree.

I assume it's a roleplay thing... kind of a neat idea, really, but I'm an antisocial critter and so far my family tree is more of an acorn.

Briana Dawson It is just a way to galvanize relationships through naming. SL families work much the same way partnering does--you become close to people; the relationships are *real* friendships (even if you might never meet in RL). I gave up my imaginary friend last week. Right, Hapworth? Is mySL family my *real* family? No. I have only met one of them in RL and was truly honored to do so. Does it make the caring any less real? No.

This has been something that's really gathered speed in the last year it seems. I don't remember anything like this going on earlier or I just didn't know about it. I slowly began hearing people call someone mum or dad and then heard people talking about how they were adopted etc. It was quite confusing at first because I thought they meant real life til someone explained to me lol. It's not something I participate in just because it would be really odd to me. I don't roleplay to that degree in SL and the thought of someone calling me mum in there would creep me out (if they were serious). I just say to each their own but the closest I come to "family" in SL are the Midnights .

Briana Dawson To some people it may be role play, to others it's beyond that, & to some it's both. I suppose I fall into the both category with my SL family there are aspects of our family that is role played but the feeling of *family* is REAL. My SL family & I have been through alot in our time together & I wouldn't trade any of them for anything. I think it's great having an SL family & just think unlike RL you actually get to choose your relatives

Mmmmkay. Sorta how a couple friends of mine, who are 10+ years older in RL have kind of adopted me. Sorta. It's like Ana's an older sister or something, and Johnny a soon-to-be bro in law. *shrug*
