and who defines who a "Known Troll" is, or what relevance the remark has to the thread? I think its a stretch, unless they bump necro. But then the funny thing is how angry people get when a new thread is created that covers the same topic as an old one. If you don't want to read old threads. Look at the date it started and move on.

Obviously, the person who knows the troll defines the troll as a "known troll," because the troll is known by the person doing the knowing.

Simply put, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, chances are pretty good that it isn't a swan.

What if it is actually a goat? :(

The deformed troll limps to the chair in front of its computer. The lights flicker as the balast fails on the sole bulb illuminating its parent's basement. The troll clumsily reaches for the mouse. It stops and sniffs, breathing in the intoxicationg aroma of formaldehyde and unwashed laundry.

It returns to its work, its bulging eye quickly darking to and fro looking at different bits of information on the dusty screen of the ancient monitor. Suddenly its other eye opens, It sits bolt upright. Furiously it begins to type, a nastly chortling resembling glee frothing from its twisted mouth.

With a grunt of triumph it finishes its necromatic spell ... It clicks 'submit reply' with a deep, ragged breath.

The light flickers again as the thread is bumped.

"ITS ALIVE!!"

hehe with apologies to the Frankenstien story.

Just an image that came to mind thinking of Trolls and Necroposting.

Now, then, we must be sensitive to the troll. Instead of deformed, let's use words like "differently-composed" or something. ;)

I, for one, can't wait until this thread is revived a couple weeks from now. Imagine the outrage!

And don't tell me it hadn't occurred to you. It's so obvious I don't even know why I've bothered mentioning it.

Anyone who dares revive this post would be branded a troll, no doubt. So everyone be aware! This thread is like a well-set trap for trolls. Just be patient and one will eventually come along, enticed by the delicious *irony that is reviving a post about the evils of reviving posts. All that has to be done once the bait is taken is a quick pulling of the thread and the troll will be caught under a 95% hollow prim that I've especially for the occasion. Then that prim will made mostly transparent for everyone to see. Also, I'll involve a particle system for some reason.

Oh, I love being clever.

* i'm aware that it's not irony, more of a self-referencial meta-statement

Oh, no one will bump this thread. Threads that deal with identifying behaviors rarely get bumped. They usually die out in a week or so and get all cob-webby.

But I'd pay for that troll trap.... well, if it included over-night service to Antartica. :)

Please refrain from personally attacking those you don't agree with. Also, to clarify, threads posted in the SL Forums remain open so others may read and possibly comment on them over time. Forum guidelines still (of course) apply to these threads which may be re-bumped for discussion.

I would actually classify old posts as follows:

1. Necroposts : I assume the word necro comes from medical term necrosis meaning completely disintegrated cell or life form. These posts basically are not worth reposting because they are in a way decomposed, smell bad and no reconstruction can ever be done.

2. Post-mortem posts : these are more recently dead posts (perhaps weeks) that may be worth re-analysing one last time, analogous to autopsy. The question can be asked why it died?

3. Brain dead posts : these are posts that never had any value in them in the first place so argument whether or not they should be rediscussed is irrelevant

4. Chronic disease posts : these are at the borderline, they come to haunt you but may be worth rediscussing in hope to cure them.

5. Long lived posts : these show up again and again intermetently, sometimes with long intervals, they just don't want to die because the topic remains fresh enough.

6. Methusalah posts : These are clasics, they will pretty much never die and 10 years from now should be reread and re-analyzed.

Maybe Pathfinder can stamp each post based on this classification so at least Trolls can focus on class 1 posts :)

I must have missed the personal attack. So far as I see, there is no one person being singled out here. Could you clarify, Jeska? Thanks. :)
