Welcome to Second Life.
You might want to stop by the Shelter, a nice place with friendly people, events, free stuff, or the New Citizens place. If you haven't looked at the help that comes up by pressing the F1 key in Second Life you might want to. It's pretty good. There's a thread in the forums about nice places in Second Life, here's the link: Great Places. If you join the NCI group you can use the group's IM to say hello and ask questions. _____________________

Hi Misleen, I only joined myself three weeks ago. Have you any idea what kind of things you want to do in SL? For instance, if you want to build head straight to the Ivory Tower. If you want to dance, however, the Shelter is a good start
![]() The New Citizens Plaza has some useful info, including a Second Life Basics board with notecards for things from Getting Started to Clothing Creation and Cool Places. You can also play board games there. Albion |

I would recommend The Ivory Tower to anyone needing to learn just about anything involving content creation of any sort. If what you want to learn is not there, there are objects that will teleport you to the location of the tutorial you need. Most of the in-world tutorials are interactive, meaning that you can follow along directly with the tutorial, and take them at your own pace.
oh, and welcome to Second Life =) |

Hi and Welcome!! I'm still fairly new myself and I love it! I'd like to pass along some things to you that I've picked up sinces starting that I'll never get around to using. I hope you can use some of it....if not, just pass it along to another new person some day!

Hello Mislean,
Others here have already given you some good advice to start with. For places to go to get some new clothes, hair, skin, etc., I recommend the following places: [1] Free Dove - this place has everything you could need. Most major clothing designers have at least something here to (as an introduction to their lines). Most of the items are a higher quality than the usual freebie stuff. Everything is free or 1L. [2] The Yard Sale - This place has the most freebies i've seen in one place at one time, and again they are all free or 1L. The quality isn't as high as Free Dove, but they offer much much more. [3] Yadni's Junkyard - Good stuff, 0 - 1L, always something new showing up. Even veteran players still make trips here sometimes to see what new treasures have turned up. Be warned, it can be dangerous sometimes as griefers like to visit here too, and they do not respect Yadni's "No Weapon Usage" policy. [4] Gnubie Inc. - same thing as above, but here i found just outside the front door, a Luskwood Furry AV vendor. It gives a Luskwood Furry (both male & female versions avail) for free/no trans. Since Luskwood AV's are some of the best... not the best, but right up there near the top... this is pretty darn good. Lastly, look in your "library" folder inside your inventory. Linden gave you several different bodies & outfits. None are as good as you can buy... but they do offer you variety when you are just starting out. If you go to one of the new player centers like NCI, they will teach you more... but in case you choose to jump right into the deep end of the pool per se, a quick and dirty course: * your body consists of several parts: Shape, Skin, eyes, hair. You cannot "remove" these parts; you can only replace them with a different part. If you look thru the Help sections of the forums you will see this is a commonly asked question. * Hair (the prim stuff) comes in 2 or pieces. The base can either be colored (mine is brown because i am a brunette) or bald. The Hair base cannot be removed, it can only be replaced with another base. The prim attachment to this is your hair. extra attachements like hairclips, buns, bangs, etc would attatch to other points on your head. The attatchments allow you to customize your look. *I hear the "How can i walk like that?" question alot. It's called an AO. You can find one at Yadni's along with a box of animations which includes a feminine walk. Be courteous: when you enter a laggy place, turn it off. You can buy AO's too. These come pre-loaded with various animations. But if you just want the walk... the free AO is fine. Many shoe makers now load their shoes with this walk, so you can even get away without needing an AO. *Look for Lucky Chairs! Stores with these load them with prizes. Some are good quality prizes, some aren't very good. Usually near the chair is a sign indicating what the prize is. Look at the text above the Chair. It lists a letter of the alphabet. When that letter matches the first letter of your first name, sit in the chair and win. Lucky Chair prizes are no transfer. You win it, you keep it. The prizes range anywhere from 99L in value to 495L (a brand new chair i just saw last night). The best chairs (based on quality of prize & the speed that the chair changes letters) for a new female player are: Awesome Designs, Adored, Sincerely, and A&S Designs. The Best chairs for new male players are at MIA's Main store and at the MIA franchise store in Music.... i want to say Music city mall, but i don't recall off the top of my head. *Male players: On Mondays, MIA Main store gives away a set of mens clothes (no transfer). Not freebie stuff, but a quality set. It's monday today... hint, hint. Sorry about the length of this. There is just so much to tell a new person. If you can, hook up with an official SL Mentor and they will help teach you. Also visit the places that others here have mentioned. And Welcome to SL |

Thanks for that Stephanie, I just picked up a bag of clothes which includes a very fetching brown top. It's something I might well have bought. Albion |
