K. Well as a host and frequent club dweller (even at ones I don't work at), here's the norm as I can see it.
Big (as in we don't normally get them) tips for hosts are anything above 30L. Hosts typically don't make hardly anything in tips. Really good average nights for me are approximately 300L. Every once in awhile, I get a friend or a really big tipper who gives me 500L, that makes it an excellent night.
DJs can get far more. A lot of DJs I know can make more than 1k a night in tips alone. Depending on my wallet at the time, I will tip from 50 to 100 to both the host and dj. I will tip 50 for an average "performance" (i.e. the host merely meets the qualifications of telling when voting is and what event is), but will go up if the host is talking the room and socializing. DJs, depending on how many requests I give them, how well I know their dj perfomances etc will change.
If a dancer is really good at keeping conversation flowing, I will (if I have enough) try to tip 30L to them. Otherwise, since most clubs have way more than 2 or 3 dancers there at a time, I will not tip.
This is just what I"ve developed over the past few months.

From: Margaret Mfume So, what amounts do people tip event hosts? Dj's, live musicians, *ingo/event hosts? I can't stress enough the usefulness of having a Tip Jar of some sort out. I'll forget to tip more often than not if there's nothing reminding me. How much I tip depends on the interactivity of the host or DJ. Those just going through the motions will probably get between 20 and 50, depending on the uniqueness of their show or events. Those who interact with the attendees, play requests, keep things interesting, make people feel welcome... etc. will get anywhere from $100 to $1000, depending on how much fun I have, and how much money I have. Live musicians will almost always get more, because I know they're paying attention and are there to entertain. Like anything else in RL or SL, how much I'm willing to pay depends on the quality and quantity of the work involved, and how much it appeals to me personally.

I like to keep my balance a tidy number, therefore over an evening of events, I'll tip a total of between L$1 and L$99, whatever rounds me down to the nearest L$100.
Since I've been running events again myself, I've been surprised by tips of anywhere from L$2 to (my record!) L$3901!
I find that I get rated most usually after running educational events, and typically I'll get rated 1-2 times per week.
As far as giving ratings, I still rate for behaviour to any event host or attendee that is more than normally friendly or helpful.

Well, it seems to be all over the map about Rating. I don't think I will do ANY until 1.7 is released, and I see what the new de facto standard settles down on. But on Tipping I feel more confident now, and I thank you all for your counsel!

Dont waste your lindens on ratings. LL has been working up to closing that system for some time now.
