There should be a HUGE party when telehubs go away. It should be an entire week-end of events with the destruction of the telehubs themselves being the grand finale. Leading up to the end, there should be parades, live music, and any other special events that people can think of. Then, when the time comes, there should be at least one Linden at each hub. With everyone gathered around, each Linden, all at the same time, unlinks the hub and makes it physical (throw in some smoke particles just for the effect). And just like that, the deed is done. Hubs are gone. P2P is here. The people are happy. What do you think? What kind of partying should there be? Is the grand finale grand enough? HP

yes, I think LL should set all the telehubs to physical and then delink them.
Along with some particle flames and we can all dance around the remains like naked savages, painted and with prim spears!

Along with some particle flames and we can all dance around the remains like naked savages, painted and with prim spears! Love it. I wonder if there should be a different theme at each hub. We got the naked savage theme. How about setting off nuke at one? A big giant foot comes down and crushes another one? Meteor strike? Would be alot of work. Get residents involved in implementing the destruction. HP

From: katykiwi Moonflower WHY? Why not? Telehubs are teh suck, they have sucked forever, and finally we are getting P2P which people have been clamoring for since it was taken away 2 years ago. I have no sympathy for lost land values - no one else gets compensated when the land they purchased loses value because Club Hell moves in. They can't get rid of the stupid telehubs fast enough for my tastes, and I for one will dance on their grave.

HP Being a Las Vegas resident, let me tell you that nothing draws a crowd or gets the blood going better than a good implosion! We love blowin' shit up! (or inward, whatever!) I say we implode the telehubs and party on their fiery ruins, Vegas style. (Oh drink lady!)

But the third little piggy had built his telehub out of prims, and would not set them physical. And huff and puff as he might, the Big Bad Wolf could not blow them down with his watermelon gun and pushscripts. And then the little piggy AR'ed the Big Bad Wolf for improper weapons use and Woodcutter Linden came along and dealt with the Wolf. And they all live happily ever after. (Even the Wolf, who went to City of Villains) I'm up for a party. Besides doug promised me pie if I would come across. Err. To the party. I'm sure that's what he meant.

Yey, party for progress... SL is becoming easy to use and we'll soon see more and more new residents stick around and become active members of the metaverse. But we should party in a hundred locations and form little flash mobs to travel P2P style around to each one.

The next thing I know, there are 50 people (most of which are Toast Bard in various forms), and then everyone is dancing. It's like a "flashdance mob".

You know, I don't actually have a problem with them being left for that reason - if you just click on a region on the map, it should take you to the nearest telehub. P2P should only work with landmarks and in Find. They should be able to coexist, but if getting rid of them is the only way LL will implement P2P, then adios telehubs. I do hope they keep them though, I would much prefer than for Linden Lab to set the stupid and unnecessary precedent of compensating land owners for the change.

They probably should be able to coexist, yes. But I don't get the impression that that is the plan. From what Robin has said on the subject so far, they're looking for ideas for things to be "placed in the public areas once the telehubs are removed.".
She also stated that "One primary reason for switching to P2P is because new residents find the telehubs, and especially the idea of having to find and fly to the red beacon, to be confusing and non-intuitive. This problem is compounded by slow-rezzing buildings that trap unsuspecting newcomers or stop them dead in their tracks. P2P is a much more friendly experience."
Which would tend to indicate an admission that telehubs are kinda a bit of a failure and should be done away with altogether in favour of a transport mechanism that makes sense.
That's not to say they won't change their mind, but I think at the moment the idea is fairly firmly to nerf hubs completely.
