"TP PLEASE"

As if it's not annoying enough being spammed with invites to the "event of the hour" at a popular club, I get 20 "TP Please" messages after that.

I understand the practice of offering (and asking for) TP's before we had direct TP, but why now? If you're a regular somewhere, shouldn't you already have a landmark to the site?

I hate having to leave groups, but I'm tired of constant IM spam.

Isn't it time to end the "TP Please" fad?

You have a good point. My opinion: stop this fad and if you want a TP to a party, then you need to be friends. You wouldn't call up some random person on the phone and say "hey come to my house im throwing a party" you would only call your friends.

I completely agree! I have left more than a few groups because of this constant annoying chatter. It's why now with the club that I help to manage, we have two events a day on average, the policy is that the host announces the event at the top of the hour and IMMEDIATELY closes the IM window to eliminate the possiblity of the numerous tp requests and silly chat. If the host announces the event and then the next message that comes after it is "so and so has left this chat" then people won't bother to chatter back and forth in the group IM.

As for Tping people in, though I tend to assume people have landmarks or can just hit my profile and get to me, I don't mind teleporting anyone and will do so if they IM back to ask gladly. But I don't think those requests should come through the group IM either.

Personally I don't request tp's anymore from anyone, I don't need to anymore. I have landmarks and if I don't have landmarks i can do a quick search for the place and teleport in directly anyway. In fact I find it nicer for me than when a friend teleports me. I'm not then landing on people's heads and waiting for the party all around to rez while I'm bumping everyone near me. I can land a few feet away and be out of the way instead.

EDIT: On a side note, what I find even more annoying is when people use a group IM to carry on an entire conversation.

No what we need is better group controls.

The ability to "mute" a group temporarily for one.

Asking for tps is one thing, not being able to shut it off is another.

Also the message that someone has left the session is not needed for the entire group.

Would be cool if the person initiating a group chat could set the parameters of it.

For example, maybe an event announcement could be set up so that only the person who started it is heard by the group. And any replies would initiate separate IM sessions with that person.

I might be over-engineering here, but seems like it could be useful.

Yeah , I have never been able to stay in any club group for longer than an hour because of this. Mute would be really cool so that you can turn it on when (if ever) you desire to be spammed every 3 minutes. While on the subject though of spam.. I NEVER mind when people on my friends list spam about their event or just spam about some new dress they bought or that they just heard something funny. I welcome that kind of calling card convo or group convo . The ones I cant stand is when a friend from your list spams with an event then IMMEDIATLY leaves the conversation before you can even say anything to them. I say if your gonna spam your friends stick around a few minutes and say hi :)

Just to point out that since most of these groups just happen to be for the express purpose of letting the members know about events AND helping them get there quickly, why would someone who is against that be a member in the first place?

And the landmarks argument? Doesn't work that well... I'm getting flooded with landmarks, and it's so much easier when the host says "ask for a ride" to ask for a ride than it is to hunt through for the right LM. That, and all too many places now are setting the tp point and it can be quite a distance from where the event is in the sim.

Of course, since shutting the IM window stops you receiving any more messages from that session, you can stop the IM spam very quickly yourself....

I'm pretty sure if you open the chat history it will show "<insert name here> has given you <blabla>" even when it's a LM.
LM offers just don't give you the popup where you can choose to disregard it.

I too have left numerous vip groups because every two minutes somebody is Imin sayin blah blah blah. I had a idea but didnt think there was as many people annoyed but this as me but how about a vip group thats only for people that dont like the spam. I mean being a vip sometimes has its avantages, but since I am not a memeber anymore I dont get the privealges anymore.

Just and idea no spam vip groups, and if somebody other than a officer is caught sending annoying spam messages out you eject them!

Did anyone else, on reading the thread title, start thinking of "The Great Cornholio"?

Or am I just on a caffeine withdrawal jag?

LOL thinking about the phrase, "Can you TP me?" just gave me an image of tiny little teenagers at my feet throwing itty bitty rolls of toilet paper up over my shoulders. :p

No, you put out a general announcement - same as in SL.
Then people phone to find out where it is.

I'm on a "conference list" for a club. Not a group, but the club owner has my calling card, and added it to her group's announcement conference. So every hour or two, I get an announcement about some club event, followed by several "TP me!" requests.

Can't 'drop the group', as I never joined one. I could ask her, politely, to remove my calling card from that list, but I actually do go to some of the events, on occasion, so I don't mind the initial announcements. Besides, the club owners are friends of mine...

I just close the IM session when they pop up. At worst, I get 5 or six replies before I can do that. Maybe one straggler that pops up in a new window just as I close it. It's distracting, but not terrible.

Landmarks can get sorted into folders, just like any inventory. Save a landmark for the club, and for other places you TP to often, and use that rather than asking to be pulled in. Or IM the host directly to ask for a TP, rather than replying to conference spam...

Sometimes you do need to be pulled in. Like if the parcel the party is on is set so that a TP takes you to a designated spot in the parcel, and not directly to the landmark. But few clubs are set up that way.

Now what I would love to see is a one-way calling card conference. Do just like now, and copy calling cards into a folder. Select the folder and choose to IM all on-line people in it. But have a checkbox in that dialog to make it one-way. The host can announce, but no one can reply, except by doing a privatre IM back to them...

Maybe I want to hear about the events, but not get the endless "TP Please" chatter than inevitably fills up my chat buffer afterwards. And it happens every hour.
