I understand where you're coming from with this, Nolan, but the flipside is that I think newbies should be well-informed to dig through the archives, New World Notes, the historical wiki, and other resources available at their disposal so they can learn on their own terms what HAS been done before. I took it upon myself before ever entering SL to be reasonably knowledgeable about this world so I could show the proper grace and respect. :)


Unlikely to happen, the minute someone says wiki I often break into hives. I prefer forums where I can interact with the community rather than just read about it.

My view regarding "Rants" is that if someone really has something nasty to get off their chest, perhaps setting up their OWN blog or forum would be more suitable -- I use "suitable" loosely of course, as I discourage personal attacks of any kind.


Rants don't have to necessarily do with people at all, so this is a fallacy. One of the most popular forums on UO stratics was the spiels n rants boards, where people could essentially free form complain about things that highly upset them with the game. Was it a haven for flamebait et al? Yes, but it also tended to focus all of that negative energy in one easy to mod area rather than spreading it out.

No matter how much you love or hate it people ARE going to be negative when you fuck up (I'm using the word you as a proxy for Linden Labs). This is not a bad thing, you can either choose to use it as a tool and say "Here is what we don't fuck up" or you ignore it and lose your customer base. Negative feedback doesn't negate the fact that it is indeed feedback AND YOU NEED TO HEAR IT. No ammount of plugging your ears going "LALALALALA" is going to make your product smell like daisy's.

I agree with this, but its not on the part of the residents.
