When someone works out how to get the exact image from SL onto the surface of the model, then I'll jump all over this. Until then...maybe, maybe not.

I would honestly pay that much for a copy of my mouse avitar... but I would have to get permission from Luskwood, and a possibly defunct person that made my avitar's glasses. but otherwise, something like that would make the best paperweight ever.

Sign me up for one!
I'll even paint it m'self!

Question...
How do we do this? How do we export the model to something useable in the milling machine?
I'm just curious.

SNOOPYbrown Zamboni (Jerry Paffendorf) actually has already had this done with his avatar and has it on his keychain - pretty cool. :)

I'll get a full 9" one of my avatar made in rubber, please...

...for Jennyfur. :p

Actually, are folks originally referenced in this thread open for business now? I sent them an email ages ago, and was told they weren't open yet.

Because I'd love to have some stuff I make in Blender made real. ;)

not stainless, you want a different grade steal for a sword. That is as long as you want to lop heads off with it....

I'd actually want a figurine of my girl I could hang from my mirror

A life sized set of Seburo's could be nice ^.~

It would be Really Freakin' Cool to take the stuff onscreen and turn it into a little figure -- on hardware that costed less than a new car.

Cost IS an issue, untill it isn't. ;)

Not too long ago, 2dprinting wasn't all that affordable for everyone, now it is.

like i said it's an issue untill it isn't.

Yes blender or 3dsmax are better suited to reformating to CAM (computer aided machineing) but as i was trying to explain to my wife, the difference is ( scratch that ) the differences are in SL you're meeting people, showing them your wares, collaborating on design, literally walking around the product, seeing it in context, seeing it in action, fecthing other people to see if they like it, can help make it better, know anyone who needs it, wants it, discuss what it's worth, or why it sould be PD. These are a lot of things that are a little hard to do in Blender. So it's only collaboration of a different form, but on so many different levels than otherwise...

say you had a blender contest to make a K.A. doodad. you and x other people take up the challenge, flex your apps. and create. then each seperately u/l your design to some judging site where after some period of time the decision is handed down from on high... yours is the best! or not! but why? what's their criteria? what feedback do you get? who gets to see it if it fails to qualify? or even if it does?(probably only the other contestants). do you get what i'm saying? check out Fablabs by neil gershenfeld, or swing on by the Center for Bits and Atoms at M.I.T. I think you'll like it :)

Eh? Actually, I just wanted a neat little desktop figure of some of my 3D work. :D

Though in terms of showing people the goods, I agree.

I would be most pleased if my avatar could be action figurized.

Anyone know if they can make them posable like action figures in toy stores?

Probably not. Though if you took the time with glIntercept to add real "joints" to the model, then asked them to machine that, it could happen. ;)
