But I was really refering to Networking be part of the SL experience and actually counting for something. I think too much of this stuff is real world affirmative action stuff, which has no place here.

Er, huh? How does affirmative action relate to networking?

Heh, really, this is what networking does for you. It establishes with any given person:

- You're not crazy
- You know what you're talking about
- You're experienced with foo
- You have a lot of skills related to foo
- Your friends are foo, foo and foo
- You're in business foo
- Can be trusted to do foo

And on and on. People want to work with people they know more than they want to work with strangers. The less strangers exist in the world for a given person, the more opportunities they have.

Right! And this exists now. What else are April and Sebastian looking for? And, btw, how can we ensure that April's networking prowess is successfully transferred to Sebastian? Spock can do something with that, right?

I want to be refered to as Sebastian, not April anymore. And would someone call me he.

I disagree totally. If you had seen the atmosphere of helpfulness and responding gratitude you would understand. But you'll have to be a volunteer to see it Cocoa. BTW Your house is there as the sole example of building possibilites at the moment.

This is going to be the way it is as the WA has turned into a cesspool and LL thankfully realized this. New residents are in no way forced to stay there if they don't want.

Lecktor, I am sure that the atmosphere of helpfulness was terrific. And from what I've read, it will be a FABULOUS way to enter the world. I can see why they wanted to implement this! I would just adore it if I were new to the game and greeted with all this!

I take issue with other aspects of it, not its actual existance. I realize the WA has turned into something less than desirable, but I would prefer they let anyone in to the Help Island and then require their behavior be beyond reproach, and discipline accordingly. (As they should have done in the WA's.)

I also took issue with the idea of people passing out samples of their own or friends' work; however, anyone can submit samples of their work to whoever it was (Jesse?), so this takes care of that.*

The networking thing though - you just can't get around it. That is an advantage the volunteers who work there have over those of us who don't. By keeping it closed, that gives volunteers and their friends advantages the rest of us - just can never have. And that's unfair. You know they will recommend their friends, and not their enemies. And that is where the newbies will go.

I've been told my house is there, and I'm thrilled! They have fixed up the yard and everything so cute, too. I'm also satisfied to know that this content will be rotated, and others will get a chance to submit their houses, vehicles, and other content for consideration in this rotation. (My house already belonged to the Lindens - well, in a more significant way than everyone's everything are belong to them - as it had already been submitted for such consideration.)

But I couldn't go there to see it in person if I wanted to, because I can't be a volunteer. This is because I have gotten a forum warning which eliminates me from consideration, should I want to be a volunteer anytime within the next six months. The forum warning I got was for saying to a mentor what she had already said to me. So - she can go see my house, but I can't. Pretty ironic, huh.

coco

P.S. * I SINCERELY HOPE. They should be passing out ONLY merchandise the Lindens have told them to, and I hope this is the policy.

DITTO WITH RECOMMENDED PLACES. Anyone should be able to submit their place to the Linden running this, and he/she should select from those, changing them on a regular basis, just as with the physical content plan. I

And because Torley gets around, it's great to give her free product. Awesome exposure!

That's networking right there. And I really doubt I'm the only person who feels this way.

I couldn't agree more! That's why I give Torley a free newspaper every week!!

But I think, just like in RL, if you interact positively with someone, that should count for something.

Huh? Can you elaborate on what your thinking of here?

It felt like a plea for some kind of regimented SL Networking Points System and Rewards Program (SLNPSRP!). Tell me if I misunderstand this, April.

Oh no. Am I going to start receiving key chains, coffee mugs and shirts with the latest motivational motto out of HR on it?

I don't know what I was saying. It's been a long day and I think I was under the influence of the Bring Back .... thread.

Okay everyone move along, there's nothing to see here.

Shouldn't Networking count for something in Second Life? I've always thought that the ones who go out of their way to meet and interact with others should get some benefit.

So, you log on to a virtual world where there are thousands of residents and you interact with them? WOW! IMPRESSIVE!

um...when did human to human interaction become considered a valiant effort? Is personal gain what motivates us to be kind, start conversations, help one another, etc?

if points were given for meeting and interacting with residents and schmoozing lindens, you can bet your ass that I would leave SL and perhaps planet earth entirely.

beam me up, scotty.

Well it should work the same way with the Lindens. I made the effort to go to SLCC. I sat next to Cory Linden. We talked, we joked, we shared a lot of things. This should mean something. I mean me and Cory bonded. But now, according to the rules and regulations set down by a few disgruntled players, I get no benefit from my time I shared with Cory (who is very hot by the way). This isn't fair. All that shmoozing I did should count for something.

I've read this several times but it just makes me feel sorry for Cory. Are you saying you only talked to him to get something out of him? I'd hate to think that someone only ever talked to me for their own benefit, or suspected me of schmoozing when I'm just trying to be friendly. I did suggest to some other ladies in the WA that we make an Ethan sandwich, as he was hovering over us, but I wasn't being serious :/

I'm not aware of having any benefit from contact with Lindens except a nice feeling that perhaps it was a change from being greeted with "Oh no it's a Linden, we can't have fun any more, when are you going to fix blah blah blah".

Actually sitting next to Cory was benefit enough.

And to be honest, I was interesting in comparing this idea to an idea exhibited in a different thread that has been locked.

I agree, hobknobing with a Linden should not offer any more benefits than that of enjoying their company. Your guys have show me the light.

Also, I don't want to be Sebastian anymore. But I transfered everything over to this avatar. So even though I look like Sebastian, I want to be addressed as April Firefly again. Please comply.

Er, no. I have no proof that you are who you say you are, and if you were able to transfer everything to Sebastian then you can transfer it back, if you are who say you are, that is. And I'm not a Borg, thank you.
