I did a check on your posts and found that you've participated in threads in the PR and Feature Suggestion forums, Land & Economy, as well as here in General. Nice. Keep letting us know what your thoughts are.

I agree with her. I've been in SL now for just over a month and I've found folks on these boards to be very nice and helpful and most welcoming to newbs. So thanks!

Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention.

The other specialty forums are much like Suburban Detroit. Nice lawns, happy perky people that go bowling on odd tuesdays & thursdays. Muggings happen, but they're rare - and most just deny that they happen at all. General, however - is like crossing 8-Mile into the downtown demiliterized zone. There are some wonderfully intelligent, creative people that live here. But I hope you brought your Kevlar, and brushed up on your Kung-Fu. That said, Welcome to SL & Great to meet you, Dygash!

Dude. Those notes are so proprietary information. Not only are you canned, but you breached the NDA as well.

There are some wonderfully intelligent, creative people that live here. But I hope you brought your Kevlar, and brushed up on your Kung-Fu. That said, Welcome to SL & Great to meet you, Dygash! I am not perky and I do not bowl. When I first saw the Shelter I had to check it out having frequented the Detroit venue of the same name. Your analogy rings true with me and I posted a similar view a few weeks back: From: Margaret Mfume A lot of people I know won't go into the city. Nope; traffic, gangs, urban decay, panhandlers, it's just not worth it for them. They think I'm crazy to venture down as I do. But I'm unwilling to give up the music, the art institute, the galleries, the unique shops, dive bars, and all the other things a city has to offer. Familiarity makes me adept at bypassing lots of annoyances and you have to know how to carry yourself. But if there's obstacle in my way I am going to maneuver around it and keep moving toward my destination, not turn around and go back home. I am more concerned with the problems of the city and more importantly the ways to resolve them than those who avoid it altogether because I intend to keep on going there and am unwilling to relinquish the positive due to its negative aspects.

I must say, people *are* kind in forums.
Here I learned how to shut off the awful green carpet while editing land. (the purpose of that checky-box had eluded me previously)
Why so many seem to fight amongst themselves is puzzling to me, but if they enjoy it I shall not stand in their way.
I am curious though... has anyone ever 'won' a debate in a forum?

From: Desmond Shang I am curious though... has anyone ever 'won' a debate in a forum? Ulrika Zugzwang. Cristiano Midnight won the forums once, too, according to Cory Edo. I also win at the forums, but according to a metric no one has yet suspected.

see I either enjoy the "debates" (because in my little world its sort of a gladitorial ring for my personal amusement and I would really appreciate it if you folks didn't shatter one of my favorite illusions) or they are boring and i skip to the end. the friendly stuff (what we have most of the time on these forums) is actually worth reading. Oftentimes its useful too.

Umm, I'm sorry I have no idea why Detroit was mentioned but it led me to this thought...Sure, the muggings in Detroit (suburban or not) are rare but the murder rate is top in the country! Bless Detroit, we just want to be number one something...anything...

Bless Detroit, we just want to be number one something...anything... No... unfortunately, Washington D.C. beat us out for the #1 spot. They have 45 murders per 100,000, and we only have 42. However, Detroit was identified as the #1 least likely city to wake up refreshed. So at least we have something Edited to add: Yawn.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about it is that anyone would have the fortitude to admit being wrong. I'm not quite sure what 'winning' might mean. Perhaps only loss is in the cards. Nobody is going to think "Hey, that Desmond said something interesting, now I'm strangely motivated to buy virtual objects from him!" But I could easily see them thinking "That morally bankrupt fellow, I'll never toss a dime his way." A strange confluence - (loss of) money as the root of all good in forums?

Cristiano won because he strung together certain words in an exact order. It was something about chicks with dicks, I think. I'd have to look it up.

Ok, congratulations....your memos have garnered me very curious and odd looks from my fellow cubicle neighbours....but I enjoyed every last giggle. *wipes hir eyes dry* About the Detroit analogy, I could entirely see the point. I've seen a number of "gladatorial discussions" err... I mean ... "debates" (*cough *flamewars*cough*) elsewhere, but completely kept to a bare minimum. Gendisc seems to house the most mad ... men/women/whatevers.

This is a nice thread. I too enjoy the forums. We should have a Forums Appreciation Day in world.
